instant bread idli recipe | instant idli recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. idli’s are the traditional breakfast recipe of south india. there are several variations to idli and its preparations. traditionally, idli’s are prepared from rice and urad dal. both rice and urad dal is grounded to fine batter. the batter is left for fermentation, usually overnight. basically, the authentic procedure with lot of time and effort involved. however, just to skip all these cumbersome process, instant idli’s are prepared. one such idli variation is bread idli recipe.

in addition, instant bread idli’s are the simplest idli recipe of all instant idli recipe. basically, add the grated bread pieces with idli rava and curd to form idli batter. also, if you do not wish to use, then replace it with lemon juice plus water. moreover, there is no fermentation step as baking soda is added to fasten the fermentation process. once the batter is ready, steam it in idli cooker to get soft and fluffy idlis. finally, serve these soft and spongy idlis with choice of your chutney recipe or sambar recipes.i personally recommend simple coconut chutney or hotel style coconut chutney recipe.

furthermore, i got the idea of bread idli recipe from my previous posts of poha idli and bread dosa recipe. basically, in this bread idli recipe, i have clubbed both the recipe to form easy and instant bread idli recipe. to be honest, my husband gave the idea of bread idli recipe. i was really intrigued by this idea and i wanted prepare it straight away. this is my new favourite idli recipe now after stuffed idli recipe. in addition, bread idli can be prepared more faster than poha idli and sabudana idli recipe. poha took almost 20 minutes for soaking, where as bread got soaked within 10 minutes.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 bread slices, white / wholegrain
  • 1 cup idli rava / rice rava
  • salt to taste
  • 1 cup thick curd, preferably sour
  • cup water, or as required
  • pinch of baking soda
  • oil to grease idli plate

Instructions
 

  • firstly, take bread slices and cut the sides. this helps to prepare white idlis.
  • furthermore, grind to smooth powder like bread crumbs.
  • then transfer the bread crumbs to a large mixing bowl.
  • additionally, add a cup of idli rava.
  • also add salt to taste and a cup of thick curd.
  • furthermore, give a good mix.
  • add water as required to prepare idli batter consistency.
  • also add ¼ cup of water above the batter so that it doesn't dry up. do not worry if your battery is watery, as bread and idli rava will absorb water.
  • rest the batter for 20 -30 minutes.
  • then, give a good mix, add water if required.
  • adjust the consistency to of idli batter.
  • just before steaming add a pinch of baking soda and mix well till it turns frothy.
  • brush the plates with oil and pour the batter immediately into the idli plate. do not rest the batter.
  • as other idlis you have to steam it for 8-10 mins on medium flame. allow it to rest for 5 mins then unmould.
  • serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.

notes:

  • firstly, always add baking soda / eno fruit salt right before steaming.
  • in addition, you can add baking soda in batches and steam them if you preparing in large quantity.
  • furthermore, you can also prepare the batter before in hand and store in fridge. remember just before steaming add baking soda.
  • finally, steam the idlis on medium heat to get the soft idlis.

    This recipe is of four slices of bread. If you are using eight slices of bread do you have to use double the quantity of all the other ingredients ?
