restaurant style kadai paneer gravy recipe is one of my favourite paneer recipe after palak paneer recipe or malai kofta recipe. whenever we go to a punjabi dhaba restaurant kadai paneer recipe is a must in the main course. we had been to a popular restaurant last week and my husband did not like the taste of kadai paneer recipe. so i thought of preparing this kadai paneer gravy recipe and giving him a pleasant surprise with garlic butter naan recipe. i was skeptical before trying this recipe, but trust me it turned out to be one of the yummiest paneer recipe.

furthermore, for all the vegetarians out their, one of the best, meat substitute is paneer or homemade paneer. according to wiki, paneer is more than any red meat when compared with the proteins in our diet. any animal products like meat or eggs are also rich in proteins, however they also come with saturated fat and cholesterol. where as paneer is good substitute as it only contains good amount of proteins for building blocks of life.

Ingredients
for kadai masala:
  • 2 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 15 dry black peppers
  • 3 kashmiri red chillies, dried
for puree:
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 inch ginger, roughly chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 10 cashews
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¾ tsp chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • water as required to blend
for paneer kadai:
  • 3 tsp oil
  • ½ onion, cubed
  • ½ capsicum, cubed
  • salt to taste
  • ½ cup water, or as required
  • 8 paneer, cubes
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ½ tsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves, crushed
  • 3 tbsp cream (optional)
Instructions ( 1 cup =255 ml)
kadai masala recipe:
  1. firstly, in a pan, and dry roast 2 tsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 15-20 black peppers and red chillis. fry till they turn aromatic.
  2. furthermore, allow to cool and coarsely powder them in a mixer.
tomato-onion puree recipe:
  1. firstly, in a kadai, roast ginger and garlic with 2 tsp of oil.
  2. in addition, add chopped onions and fry till they begun to sweat.
  3. furthermore, add 2 chopped tomatoes and fry for 2 minutes.
  4. now add few cashews and fry again.
  5. also add turmeric, chilli powder and salt.
  6. lastly, cool completely and blend to smooth puree.
paneer kadai recipe:
  1. in a large kadai, heat 3 tsp of oil and fry cubed onions and capsicum.
  2. now add blended tomato-onion puree and get to a boil for 2 minutes.
  3. add 2-3 tsp of prepared kadai masala.
  4. add required salt and water.
  5. cook covered for 5 minutes.
  6. now add paneer and mix gently.
  7. furthermore, add garam masala, kasuri methi and cream.
  8. finally, serve kadai paneer hot with garlic naan or chapathi.

  1. firstly, take a heavy bottomed pan, and dry roast 2 tsp coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 15-20 black peppers and red chillis. fry till they turn aromatic.

  2. finally allow to cool and coarsely powder them in a mixer. keep aside

tomato-onion puree recipe:

  1. firstly, in a kadai, roast ginger and garlic with 2 tsp of oil. fry for a minute.

  2. next add chopped onions and fry till they start to sweat.

  3. in addition, add 2 chopped tomatoes and fry for 2 minutes.

  4. furthermore, add few cashews and fry again.

  5. time to add turmeric, chilli powder and salt. fry till the tomatoes are cooked well and start leaving oil from sides.

  6. cool completely and blend to smooth puree. add water only if required. keep aside.

paneer kadai recipe:

  1. firstly, in a large kadai, heat 3 tsp of oil and fry cubed onions and capsicum. fry till they shrink. do not cook completely; they should be crunchy.

  2. now add blended tomato-onion puree and then get to a boil for 2 minutes.

  3. in addition, add 2-3 tsp of prepared kadai masala. adjust the masala to your taste. give a good mix.

  4. also, add required salt and water. remember, you have added some salt while preparing puree.

  5. furthermore, cook covered for 5 minutes.

  6. in addition, add homemade paneer and mix gently. do not break the paneer.

  7. furthermore, add garam masala, kasuri methi and cream.

  8. also, give a good mix and transfer to a serving bowl.

  9. finally, serve kadai paneer hot with garlic naan or chapathi.

notes:

  • firstly, you can also prepare paneer kadai dry by not adding water to the curry.
  • also, use freshly roasted and ground masala. as it gives nice flavour and fragrance.
  • furthermore, you can skip cream if you are diet conscious. however, it increases flavour.
  • in addition, vegans can replace paneer with tofu.
  • finally, along with capsicum and onions, you can also add cubed tomatoes.
