Red Chutney Recipe for Chaat | Chilli Garlic Chutney | Red Garlic Chutney with step-by-step photo and video recipe. It is one of the most important and required chutney recipes whenever a lip-smacking Indian Chaat Recipes is planned. In other words, any chaat recipe is incomplete without red garlic chutney as otherwise it would taste ordinary. Further, the same chutney can also be used as a taste enhancer or a simple dip with any snack meal.

The color and texture of this red garlic chutney may give an impression of extra hot and spiciness. However, this is far from reality. In this recipe, I have soaked the red chilies to lower the temperature and their spiciness. Also, I have used red Kashmiri chilies which are comparatively less spicy yet give a dark red color to the final product. Furthermore, if you still feel it is too much to handle, then you can add peanuts or roasted chana dal while grounding. This would lower the spiciness considerably, but may not have the zing and lip-smacking taste. I would recommend sticking to the original recipe and perhaps reducing the added quantity to any chaat recipe.

Furthermore, here are some important tips and recommendations for a balanced spicy red chutney recipe for chaat. Firstly, I heavily recommend using Kashmiri red chilies as it is less spicy and also give a good red color to the chutney. While it is not mandatory, with Kashmiri chilies, the spice level can be controlled. Secondly, you can also de-seed the chilies before grounding them in chutney. This should reduce the heat considerably and make it a mild spice chutney. Lastly, while grounding you can maintain a thick consistency, but while serving or using make it thin in consistency. Moreover, store it in an air-tight container for a longer shelf life.

  1. Hi Archana,
You post the exact measurements for recipes. Have tried any recipes from your blog and they have all turned out perfect. My sister in law and mother in law are big fans of your blog too!
I know it’s a silly question but do you use bullet for all your blending needs? Do you find the need for a traditional mixer?
    Thanks,
    Harini

    • Hello Harini,
      Thank you very much..
Maggic bullet works great to prepare puree and smoothies. However it doesnt replace the indian mixi when it comes for blending masala and batter.
