veg momos recipe | vegetarian steamed momos recipe | veg dumplings recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. this recipe is coming directly from nepal cuisine or chineese veg cuisine. momos are steamed formed of dumplings which is stuffed with cooked vegetables. basically, momos are the staple food of nepal, bhutan, tibet, north eastern part of india. but now widely accepted all over india.
i started to prepare this recipe as veg momos stuffed with paneer is my husband’s favourite evening time snacks recipe. he developed the taste for momos when he had been to nepal during his college days. he was staying with his nepali friend and his mom use to prepare veg momos. she is to serve with red chutney for momos. i have improvised this recipe by adding grated homemade paneer to the vegetable stuffing.
furthermore, according to wiki, momos are originated from tibet or from nepal. as the people from tibet and nepal started to migrate, they carried this recipe to other parts of the world and especially to india. in india it has been widely accepted as street food and a evening snack. there are variety of momos available like meat, tofu, cheesy and mashed potato momos. out of all i personally, like vegetable momos with paneer stuffings.
finally, i have listed several snacks recipe, like bread sandwich, cheesy bread roll, bread medu vada, aloo bread pakora, masala bread, pav bhaji, vada pav. also, have a look at my onion pakoras, sweet potato pakoda fritters recipe, medu vada, goli baje, sajjige vada.
veg momos recipe | vegetarian steamed momos video recipe:

- 1 tsp oil
- ½ onion finely chopped
- 1 green chilli finely chopped (optional)
- ¼ tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 cup cabbage grated
- 1 carrot grated
- ½ cup paneer grated
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp vinegar
- few coriander leaf chopped
- 1 cup maida / all-purpose flour / plain flour
- 1 tsp oil
- salt to taste
- water as required to knead dough
- 1 tbsp maida / all-purpose flour / plain flour for dusting
- cabbage leaf for placing in tray
- in a wide pan add a tsp of oil and saute onions till they sweat.
- now add chopped green chilli and ginger-garlic paste. saute well till the raw smell disappears.
- add grated cabbage and saute for a minute on medium flame.
- now add carrot and saute a minute again.
- add grated panner and just give a good mix. do not fry for long time as panner will become hard.
- now add a tsp of soy sauce and vinegar. give a good mix.
- also add chopped coriander leaf and mix well.
- allow the stuffing to cool before you prepare momos.
- in a large mixing bowl, take 1 cup of maida / all-purpose flour, oil and salt to taste.
- mix well with your hand, so that everything is combined well.
- now add water slowly (little by little) and knead dough till they are soft and non sticky.
- cover the dough with moist cloth and keep aside for atleast 1 hour.
- after an hour, take the prepared momos dough and knead well again for a minute.
- pinch a small ball and flatten.
- now dust with some maida / all-purpose flour and start to roll using rolling pin.
- roll to almost medium thin circle. around 4 - 5 inch in diameter. make sure you roll from sides and keep the center slightly thick.
- now place a heaped tbsp of prepared stuffing in center.
- start pleating the edges slowly and gather everything.
- press in middle and seal the momos.
- heat a steamer and place a tray lined with cabbage leaf. this prevents momos from sticking to tray.
- steam momos for 10 minutes or till shiny sheen appears over it.
- serve momos hot with momos sauce

momos stuffing recipe:

momos preparation recipe:
- after an hour, take the prepared momos dough and knead well again for a minute.
- pinch a small ball and flatten.
- now dust with some maida / all-purpose flour and start to roll using rolling pin.
- roll to almost medium thin circle. around 4 – 5 inch in diameter. make sure you roll from sides and keep the center slightly thick.
- now place a heaped tbsp of prepared stuffing in center.
- start pleating the edges slowly and gather everything.
- press in middle and seal the momos.
- heat a steamer and place a tray lined with cabbage leaf. this prevents momos from sticking to tray.
- now arrange the momos in the tray without touching each other.
- furthermore, steam momos for 12 minutes or till shiny sheen appears over it.
- finally, serve momos hot with momos sauce
notes:
- firstly, do not roll too thin nor too thick. keep it medium thickness from center and thin from edges.
- in addition, place a tray lined with cabbage leaf. this prevents momos from sticking to tray.
- furthermore, prepare the stuffing of your choice.
- finally, serve veg momos with spicy momos chutney.
hi I have a doubt I don’t have a steamer. ll I be able to cook momos in cookers if so how should I do it
definitely you can steam in cooker without putting whistle.. also make sure to put water at bottom of cooker before placing the box.
