Ingredients

  • ½ cup moong dal
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • cumin / jeera - 1 tsp
  • 1 inch ginger chopped
  • 1 green chilli chopped
  • onion finely chopped - 1 small
  • ½ carrot chopped
  • 4 beans chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • pinch of hing / asafetida
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  • firstly, wash and soak moong dal in water for 5 minutes.
  • furthermore, heat the ghee in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and hing.
  • when they sizzle, add curry leaves and ginger. saute till it turns aromatic.
  • additionally, add chopped onions, green chilli and saute till they change colour to pinkish.
  • oats khichdi
  • furthermore, add tomatoes and fry till they turn soft and mushy.
  • later add carrot and beans (or veggies of your choice) and saute for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • drain the water from half cup dal and add along with turmeric. fry for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • furthermore, add 1 cup of oats, salt and fry for about 2 minutes.
  • pour 4 cups of water. and give a mix.
  • you can adjust the quantity of water to make it mushy or slightly grainy. on a medium flame, pressure cook for two whistle.
  • finally, serve oats khichdi warm after garnishing with some coriander leaves with raita.
