Ingredients

  • 2 cup cabbage thinly shredded
  • 1 medium onion thinly sliced
  • ¾ cup besan gram flour
  • ¼ cup rice flour
  • 1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder / haldi
  • pinch of hing / asafoetida
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • few curry leaves chopped
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep frying

Instructions

  • firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 2 cups of shredded cabbage and 1 sliced onion.
  • further add ¾ cup besan.
  • also add ¼ cup rice flour. alternatively use corn flour to make it more crispy.
  • additionally, add 1 tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp turmeric, pinch of hing, 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste, few curry leaves and salt to taste.
  • combine and mix well without adding any water.
  • also squeeze the cabbage to get moisture out from it.
  • the cabbage and onions will release moisture and make dough moist.
  • form a dough, add 2 tsp of water if required.
  • now take a small ball sized dough and drop into hot oil.
  • make sure to spread the dough and not pile up one over another.
  • fry on medium flame stirring occasionally.
  • also fry till the pakodas turn crisp and golden brown.
  • finally, serve crispy cabbage pakoda with tomato sauce along with masala tea.
