Ingredients

  • 5 tsp oil
  • 1 cup garlic crushed
  • ½ cup chana dal
  • ½ cup urad dal
  • 2 tbsp toor dal
  • 2 tbsp sesame
  • 1 tbsp cumin
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 cup dry coconut sliced
  • 10 dried red chilli
  • small piece tamarind
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • small piece jaggery

Instructions

  • Firstly, heat 3 tsp oil and roast 1 cup garlic.
  • Roast until the garlic turns golden brown and crispy.
  • Once the garlic turns golden brown, keep aside.
  • In the same pan take ½ cup chana dal, ½ cup urad dal, 2 tbsp toor dal and roast on low flame until the dal turns aromatic.
  • Now add 2 tbsp sesame, 1 tbsp cumin, 1 tbsp coriander seeds and roast until the spices turn aromatic.
  • Transfer to the plate and keep aside.
  • In the pan heat 2 tsp oil, add 1 cup dry coconut, 10 dried red chilli and roast well.
  • Fry until the coconut turns golden brown and the chilli are puffed up.
  • Also, add a small piece of tamarind and roast well.
  • Cool completely, and transfer to the mixer jar.
  • Grind to fine powder.
  • Now add roasted dal and grind to a coarse powder.
  • Further add roasted garlic, 1 tbsp salt and a small piece of jaggery.
  • Pulse and grind to coarse powder.
  • Transfer the garlic chutney powder into the large box.
  • Finally, enjoy Garlic Podi or Poddu Podi with hot steamed rice, idli or dosa.
