Firstly, in a bowl soak ball sized tamarind for 15 minutes. Keep aside.
In a pressure cooker, take 1 cup toor dal, 2 tomato, 5 chilli, few curry leaves, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp turmeric and 1 tsp ghee.
Pour in 3 cup water and pressure cook for 9 whistles.
Once the pressure settles down, mash the dal slightly.
Add 2 tbsp coriander and squeeze the tamarind extract.
Mix well and boil for 5 minutes or until the raw flavour of tamarind is gone.
Also add 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp salt and 1 cup water.
Mix well making sure everything is well combined.
Continue to boil for 5 minutes or until the dal turns aromatic.
To prepare the tempering, heat 2 tbsp ghee. Add ½ tsp mustard, ½ tsp cumin, 10 cloves garlic, 3 dried red chilli, pinch hing and few curry leaves.
Splutter the tempering.
Pour the tempering over the dal and mix well.
