Firstly, in a mixer jar take 1 cup pottukadalai and grind to a fine powder.
In a pan heat 2 tbsp ghee and roast pottukadalai powder.
Roast for 3 to 4 minutes or until the roasted gram dal powder turns aromatic. Keep aside.
In a saucepan take 1½ cup jaggery and 2 cup water.
Stir and melt all the jaggery. Boil the jaggery water for 1 minute.
Pour the jaggery water into the mixture and mix well.
Stir continuously until the mixture is well combined.
Also, add pinch saffron food colour and ½ tsp cardamom powder.
Continue to stir until the mixture thickens and turns into a silky consistency.
Further, add ½ tsp cardamom powder and 2 tbsp ghee.
Mix well until the mixture separates the pan.
Now add 2 tbsp cashew and mix well. The halwa thickens once cooled.
