spring onion tambuli recipe / spring onion flavored yougurt

for tambli

  • 2 stalks spring onion
  • 3 tbsp coconut
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1-2 green chillies depending upon the spice level
  • 1 tsp ghee

for seasoning

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 red chilli
  • 3-4 curry leaves
  • pinch of hing


  • clean the spring onions and chop them finely.
  • take a tsp of ghee in a frying pan. to that add cumin seeds, green chilli and spring onion.
  • fry on a medium flame till spring onions shrink in size.
  • allow spring onions to cool completely.
  • in a blender, take the fried spring onion mixture with coconut.
  • add warm water and grind them to a fine paste.
  • now transfer this to a bowl. add curd or buttermilk and mix it well. add water to adjust the tambli consistency.
  • add salt to taste and mix well.
  • now in a seasoning pan heat ghee, add mustard, jeera, red chilli, curry leaves and hing.tadka
  • when the mustard seeds splutter add it to tambuli.
  • serve it along with hot steamed rice.
