- firstly, in a pressure cooker take ¼ cup toor dal, ¼ cup chana dal ¼ cup moong dal. make sure to soak the dal atleast for 20 minutes. 
- also add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt and 1 tsp oil. 
- add 2¼ cup water and pressure cook for 5 whistles. 
- cook until the dal is cooked well. keep aside. 
- in a large kadai, heat 2 tbsp butter. add 1 tsp cumin, 1 tsp kasuri methi, 1 chilli, slit, 1 inch ginger and 3 clove garlic. 
- saute until the spices turn aromatic. 
- now add ½ onion and saute slightly. 
- further, add ½ tsp turmeric and 1 tsp chilli powder. saute on low flame until the spices turn aromatic. 
- add 1 tomato and saute until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy. 
- pour in cooked dal and ½ tsp salt. 
- mix well combining everything. 
- furthermore, add 1 cup water or as required adjusting the consistency. 
- simmer for 3 minutes or until the flavours are absorbed well. 
- now add 2 tbsp coriander and ¼ tsp garam masala. mix well. 
- finally, enjoy butter dal fry with jeera rice.
