Firstly, in a pressure cooker take ½ cup toor dal, ½ tsp turmeric, 2 tsp oil, 1 tsp salt and 2 cup water.
Place a bowl, add ½ cup basmati rice, 1 cup water, ½ tsp salt and ½ tsp ghee.
Also place 3 potato, 2 tomato and pressure cook for 4 whistles.
Once the pressure settles down, keep the rice and aloo aside.
Mash the dal and tomato smooth, also add 1 cup water and mix well.
Boil for 2 minutes and adjust the consistency as required.
In a pan heat 2 tbsp ghee. Add 1 tsp cumin, 5 cloves garlic, 1 inch ginger, pinch hing and 2 dried red chilli.
Splutter the tempering, and pour over the dal. Mix well.
Dal Bhat is ready to serve.
