Ingredients

  • 2 cup peas / matar soaked/frozen
  • 3 cup water
  • 1 tbsp ghee / clarified butter
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp jeera / cumin
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 green chilli finely chopped
  • 1 tomato finely chopped
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp coriander finely chopped

Instructions

  • firstly, in a blender take 2 cups of soaked peas.
  • blend to a coarse paste without adding any water.
  • transfer the coarse peas paste to cooker along with 3 cup water.
  • pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
  • now in a large kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee and splutter 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp jeera, pinch hing and few curry leaves.
  • now add 1 onion and saute well followed by 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and 2 green chilli.
  • also, add 1 tomato and saute till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • further, add ½ tsp garam masala and ¾ tsp salt.
  • saute till the spices get cooked well.
  • add in cooked peas and mix well.
  • boil on medium flame for 2 minutes or until flavours are absorbed.
  • now add 2 tbsp coriander leaves and mix well.
  • finally, serve matar ki dal recipe with hot steamed rice.
