Ingredients

for pressure cooking:

  • 1 tsp oil
  • ½ cup moong dal rinsed
  • cup water

other ingredients:

  • cup rice flour
  • 2 tbsp butter softened
  • 2 tsp sesame / til
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ¼ cup water
  • oil for frying

Instructions

  • firstly, in a pressure cooker take 1 tsp oil and saute ½ cup moong dal.
  • saute until the moong dal turns aromatic.
  • add 1½ cup water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • transfer the moong dal paste to a large mixing bowl.
  • add 1½ cup rice flour, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tsp sesame, pinch hing and 1 tsp salt.
  • crumble and mix until the spices are combined well.
  • further, add ¼ cup water and knead the dough.
  • knead to smooth and soft dough.
  • fry chaklis on medium flame.
  • flip the chaklis and fry till they turn golden brown and crispy from both sides.
  • drain them to the paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • finally, serve moong dal chakli with masala tea or masala milk.
