wheat momos recipe | veg wheat momos recipe | atta momos recipe with detailed photo and video recipe. basically a type of south asian dumpling which mainly popular in tibet, nepal, sikkim and bhutan. typically the momos are prepared with all purpose flour, however in this recipe wheat flour is used to make the outer cover.
i have already shared a traditional version of momos recipe prepared with all purpose flour or maida. however i use to get several requests for a healthy momos recipe with healthy stuffing and especially with wheat. it took me a while to share this healthy wheat or atta momos but i had to share it soon. while the stuffing is more or less the same in both recipe but i have used purple cabbage which gives it a nice taste and texture. i typically enjoy this with momos chutney recipe but it can also be consumed with schezwan sauce recipe.
furthermore, some important tips and suggestions for a perfect veg wheat momos recipe. firstly, as mentioned earlier the momos covering can also be prepared with maida or all purpose flour for the authentic taste. secondly, the vegetables added in the stuffing is completely open ended and you can extend it by adding paneer, beans, capsicum and even mashed potatoes. lastly, make sure to roll the momos wrap as thin as possible, otherwise you may not be able to pleat it.

Ingredients
for momos dough:
- 2 cups wheat flour / atta
- 2 tsp oil
- salt to taste
- water as required, to knead
for stuffing:
- 2 tsp oil
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cups cabbage, shredded
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- ½ tsp pepper, crushed
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp chilli sauce
- salt to taste
Instructions
- firstly, prepare the dough and rest for 30 minutes.
- now in a large kadai heat oil and saute in 2 cloves garlic.
- also saute 1 onion.
- furthermore, add in 2 cups cabbage and 1 carrot. saute slightly.
- additionally, add in 1 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp chilli sauce, ½ tsp pepper and salt to taste.
- mix well and stuffing is ready.
- after an hour, take the prepared momos dough and knead well again for a minute.
- pinch a small ball and flatten.
- now dust with some wheat flour and start to roll using rolling pin.
- roll to almost medium thin circle. around 4 – 5 inch in diameter.
- now place a heaped tbsp of prepared stuffing in centre.
- start pleating the forming a bundle.
- furthermore, steam momos for 10-12 minutes.
- finally, serve wheat momos hot with momos sauce.
how to make wheat momos with step by step photo:
- firstly, prepare the dough by mixing up 2 cups wheat flour, 2 tsp oil, salt to taste.
- add in water as required and knead to smooth dough.
- cover with moist cloth and rest for 30 minutes.
- now in a large kadai heat oil and saute in 2 cloves garlic.
- also saute 1 onion.
- furthermore, add in 2 cups cabbage and 1 carrot. saute slightly.
- additionally, add in 1 tbsp vinegar, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp chilli sauce, ½ tsp pepper and salt to taste.
- mix well and stuffing is ready.
- after an hour, take the prepared momos dough and knead well again for a minute.
- further pinch a small ball and flatten.
- now dust with some wheat flour and start to roll using rolling pin.
- roll to almost medium thin circle. around 4 – 5 inch in diameter. make sure you roll from sides and keep the center slightly thick.
- using a small cup, cut into circle and brush water to sides.
- now place a heaped tbsp of prepared stuffing in centre.
- start pleating the edges slowly and gather everything.
- press in middle and seal the momos forming a bundle.
- heat a steamer and arrange the momos in the tray without touching each other.
- furthermore, steam momos for 10-12 minutes or till shiny sheen appears over it.
- finally, serve wheat momos hot with momos sauce.
notes:
- firstly, add vegetables of your choice in the stuffing.
- also place a tray lined with cabbage leaf while steaming. this prevents momos from sticking to tray.
- additionally, do not roll too thin nor too thick. keep it medium thickness from center and thin from edges.
- finally, wheat momos taste great when served with momos sauce.

This recipe is very well illustrated. I took the liberty of adding grated ginger & green chillies to the above mentioned ingredients. Because of using 100% wheat & 0% maida, I had to steam the momos for nearly 30 minutes. But they came out really well!
