peda recipe | instant kesar peda recipe | kesar milk peda with milkmaid with detailed photo and video recipe. a traditional indian milk based fudge which is usually prepared in semi thick or semi-soft pieces. traditionally peda’s are prepared from khoya, mawa or milk based solid, however this recipe is an instant version prepared from condensed milk.
peda recipe | instant kesar peda recipe | kesar milk peda with milkmaid with step by step photo and video recipe. there are several flavours and varieties to peda recipe which totally depends upon ingredients added to it. moreover it is believed that, peda, pedha, penda, pera have originated from mathura which has its own unique characteristics, colour and taste. perhaps this recipe may have similar attributes to mathura peda or mawa peda, but certainly much more easier and hassle free.
i have already shared the milk peda or doodh peda recipe, but i was getting several requests for instant kesar milk peda with milkmaid. both the recipes are very similar, but i have introduced subtle differences which makes unique to both the recipes. the main difference i have introduced is kesar milk in this recipe. kesar introduces totally different flavour and taste to kesar peda recipe. the other main difference is the dry fruits used to top peda or palkova. i have pista in this and chopped badam in the milk peda recipe.
furthermore, some vital tips and suggestions for a perfect kesar milk peda recipe. firstly, i have used condensed milk or milkmaid which already have sugar content in it. alternatively, use store bought evaporated milk to control the sugar or sweet level. secondly, always grease your hand with ghee before shaping peda. ghee would help to bring nice texture to kesar peda recipe. lastly, start shaping the peda when the milk solid is still warm. otherwise, once it is cooled down it would be difficult to shape them.

Ingredients
- 1 tsp + 1 tsp ghee / clarified butter
- 1 tin / 397 gm condensed milk / milkmaid
- 1.5 cups milk powder, full cream
- 2 tbsp saffron milk, few stands of saffron mixed with 2 tbsp of warm milk
- ½ tsp cardamom powder / elachi powder
- 20 pistachios / any dry fruit of choice
Instructions
- firstly, in a thick bottomed pan or a nonstick pan heat ghee.
- further add condensed milk and milk powder.
- mix well keeping the flame on low.
- also mix and mash breaking the lumps of milk powder if present. alternatively, sieve the milk powder before adding.
- mix continuously, till the milkmaid melts completely.
- further keep stirring keeping the flame on low till the mixture thickens.
- now add saffron milk and mix well keeping the flame on low.
- the mixture thickens and starts to separate from the pan.
- further add cardamom powder and ghee to enhance the flavour.
- mix well turning off the stove.
- spread the dough to cool slightly, so it will be easy to prepare pedas.
- now scoop a tbsp of dough and prepare a ball.
- prepare a smooth and crack free ball by greasing ghee to hands.
- and place pistachios or any dry fruit at the centre and press gently.
- finally, instant kesar milk peda is ready to serve or refrigerate in a air tight container to store for a week.
how to make kesar peda recipe with step by step photo:
- firstly, in a thick bottomed pan or a nonstick pan heat ghee.
- further add condensed milk. reduce or increase the amount of condensed milk depending on the sweetness you prefer.
- also add milk powder.
- mix well keeping the flame on low.
- also mix and mash breaking the lumps of milk powder if present. alternatively, sieve the milk powder before adding.
- mix continuously, till the milkmaid melts completely.
- further keep stirring keeping the flame on low till the mixture thickens.
- now add saffron milk or yellow food colour. to prepare saffron milk, soak few stands of saffron in 2 tbsp of warm milk for 15 minutes.
- mix well keeping the flame on low.
- the mixture thickens and starts to separate from the pan.
- further add cardamom powder and ghee to enhance the flavour.
- mix well turning off the stove. further cooking, will make peda chewy and slightly hard.
- mix till the dough turns soft and smooth.
- spread the dough to cool slightly, so it will be easy to prepare pedas.
- now scoop a tbsp of dough and prepare a ball.
- prepare a smooth and crack free ball by greasing ghee to hands.
- and place pistachios or any dry fruit at the centre and press gently.
- finally, instant kesar milk peda is ready to serve or refrigerate in a air tight container to store for a week.
notes:
- firstly, cook the peda on low flame, else there are chances for doodh peda to burn.
- also, peda turns to be slightly chewy when warm. once cooled down, it turns to be soft and tasty.
- alternatively, add powdered sugar to mawa / khova / khoya to prepare mawa peda.
- adding, saffron milk is completely optional. however enhances the flavour.
- finally, instant kesar milk peda can also be garnished with cashews or almonds.

yummy recipes, tried many but need some special mentions like what brand of milk powder or if you’re using some instant powders bought from stores, which ones would taste better, because the milkpowder i used for this tasted awful. i added some sugar and more ghee to cover it up. and the whole taste went off the grid !
