while popularly it is known as bread halwa in india, but some prefer to call it as bread pudding recipe too. perhaps because of the texture, colour and more importantly it is full of nuts. but the good news is both the recipes are totally different. bread ka halwa recipe is prepared more with indian style and more importantly with desi ghee. whereas bread pudding is more english or european style with loads of butter and sweet syrups. often it may also contains egg white with condensed milk too. also some recipes may have to refrigerated until it is set. so bottom line is, these 2 are different recipes altogether.
furthermore, some easy tips and recommendations to make a perfect bread halwa recipe. firstly, i have used normal white bread or plain sandwich breads for this recipes, but alternatively you can also use multi grain and whole meal bread too. secondly, i have cut the bread slices into pieces but you can powder the bread in a blender and then use it. finally you can also use bread crumbs as a replacement to bread slices.

Ingredients
- 5 slice bread, white / brown
- 3 tbsp ghee / clarified butter
- 1 tbsp raisins / kishmish
- 1 tbsp cashew / kaju
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder / elachi powder
Instructions
- firstly, trim the sides of 5 slices of bread and cut into pieces.
- now in a large kadai heat 3 tbsp ghee and roast 1 tbsp raisins and 1 tbsp cashew. keep aside.
- add in bread pieces and roast for 2 minutes.
- roast till the bread slices turn golden and crisp.
- further add 1 cup milk and soak all bread pieces.
- boil for 2 minutes or until the bread turns soft.
- mash the bread pieces well stirring continuously.
- cook till the ghee starts to separate from sides.
- add in ¼ cup sugar and stir well.
- sugar dissloves and the starts to separate from pan.
- cook till a lump is formed.
- now add in roasted cashes, raisins and ¼ tsp cardamom powder. mix well.
- finally, serve bread halwa hot or can be stored for 2 days.

notes:
- firstly, trim the sides of bread for even cooking. however you can also use the sides if they are soft.
- also you can use brown bread or multi grain bread for a healthy option.
- additionally, adjust the amount of sugar depending on the sweetness of bread used.
- finally, cook the bread halwa on low to medium flame stirring continuously.
