radish chutney recipe | mullangi pachadi | mullangi chutney with detailed photo and video recipe. a simple and nutrient chutney recipe made with white radish and lentils. it is an ideal side dish or condiment recipe for dal rice or sambar rice combination, and can also be extended to morning breakfast recipes. moreover the dish is entirely prepared without adding coconut as compared to other chutney recipes.
as i mentioned previously, radish chutney is one of the healthiest and nutrient chutney recipe compared to all its siblings. basically, the recipe is entirely made with just chopped radish and sautéed lentils. in other words no coconut is used to get a chutney consistency and hence it cholesterol free. moreover the radish is known for its fiber richness. in short this chutney recipe is cholesterol free and rich in fiber recipe. nevertheless, i am not recommending this recipe just based on its health aspects and i would like to pitch in with its taste and preparation time too. the taste of the recipe is a combination of sharp radish taste with mixture of sourness, bitterness and spiciness. and hence making it an ideal chutney recipe for any occasions.
furthermore, some easy variations, tips and recommendations for radish chutney recipe. firstly, i prepared this chutney using white radish and it is just perfect with it. having said that, you can also use pink or red radish and it should be equally great. secondly, in this recipe i have used only one vegetable and that is radish. but you can also use onions and tomatoes with radish to add some extra flavor. lastly, the spiciness of the chutney can be easily controlled with the number red chillies added to it. alternatively, you can increase the number of chillies by 1-2 and add 1-2 tbsp of coconut to make it thick and flavoured.

Ingredients
- 2 tsp oil
- 1 tbsp chana dal
- 1 tbsp urad dal
- ½ tsp cumin seeds / jeera
- 1 tsp coriander seeds
- 3 dried red chilli
- 3 clove garlic
- 1 inch ginger
- 1 cup radish / muli / mulangi, chopped
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp water
- small piece tamarind
- ½ tsp salt
for tempering:
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp mustard
- few curry leaves
- pinch hing / asafoetida
Instructions
- firstly, in a tawa heat 2 tsp oil and add 1 tbsp chana dal, 1 tbsp urad dal, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp coriander seeds and 3 dried red chilli.
- saute on low to medium flame, until the dal turns golden brown.
- now add 3 clove garlic, 1 inch ginger, 1 cup radish and ¼ tsp turmeric.
- saute for a minute.
- furthermore, add 2 tbsp water and mix well.
- cover and cook on low flame for 5 minutes.
- cool completely and transfer to the blender.
- also, add small piece tamarind and ½ tsp salt.
- blend to a coarse paste without adding water.
- now prepare the tempering, by heating 1 tbsp oil.
- add ½ tsp mustard few curry leaves and pinch hing.
- allow to splutter and pour tempering over mulangi chutney.
- finally, mix radish chutney and enjoy with hot steamed rice, idli or dosa.
how to make radish chutney with step by step photo:

- now prepare the tempering, by heating 1 tbsp oil.
- add ½ tsp mustard few curry leaves and pinch hing.
- allow to splutter and pour tempering over mulangi chutney.
- finally, mix radish chutney and enjoy with hot steamed rice, idli or dosa.
notes:
- firstly, add coconut or peanut for a variation in mulangi chutney.
- also, to avoid radish smell, add half onions along with radish.
- additionally, add water and blend to smooth paste to enjoy with dosa and idli.
