masala toast recipe | mumbai masala toast sandwich recipe with detailed photo and video recipe. a tasty and chatpata sandwich toast recipe from the streets of bombay which can be served as both chaat recipe and also breakfast recipe. the uniqueness of this sandwich toast recipe is prepared with the combination of aloo masala served with a topping of fine sev.
masala toast recipe | mumbai masala toast sandwich recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. veg masala toast sandwich recipe is a simple sandwich recipe which can be prepared with left over potato masala recipe. the other stuffing includes slices of onion, tomatoes and capsicum rings with generous amount of green chutney. finally the sandwich is topped with nylon sev which makes it colourful and attractive.
the masala toast recipes are typically prepared with a unique toaster which is very much specific to mumbai street food vendors. basically it helps to gives a crisp and cone triangle shape, locking the sides of toast. however, in this recipe i have used a normal tawa as i did not have access to it. but if you have access to it, than i would heavily recommend to use it. alternatively, dosa pan or dosa tawa is also a handy option and can be toasted in a low to medium flame.
while there isn’t much a complicated steps with mumbai masala toast sandwich recipe, yet some tips and recommendations. firstly, use butter to toast sandwich as it gives street style flavour. also grate generous amount of cheese to prepare cheese masala tosat sandwich. lastly, stuff with vegetables of your choice like cucumber, beetroot and carrot to make masala toast more nutritious and healthy.

Ingredients
for stuffing:
- 2 tsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard / rai
- ½ tsp jeera / cumin
- 1 inch ginger (chopped)
- ½ tsp turmeric / haldi
- ½ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- 2 boiled potato (mashed)
- ¼ tsp chaat masala
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves (chopped)
other ingredients:
- 6 slice bread (white / brown)
- ¼ cup green chutney
- 1 onion (sliced)
- 2 to mato (sliced)
- ½ capsicum (rings)
- 3 tsp butter
- ¼ cup sev
- 1 tbsp chaat masala
Instructions
- firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tsp oil and add 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp jeera, 1 inch ginger.
- saute and allow to splutter.
- further add 2 boiled and mashed potato. i have pressure cooked potato for 3 whistles.
- also add ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp chaat masala and ½ tsp salt.
- mix and mash potato well.
- turn off the flame and mix 2 tbsp coriander leaves. aloo masala stuffing is ready.
- spread green chutney over 2 bread slice.
- top on one bread slice with 2 slices of onion and 5 slices of tomato.
- sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala to season vegetables.
- now spread a tbsp of prepared aloo masala.
- also top with 2 rings of capsicum and sprinkle chaat masala.
- cover with another bread slices and spread ½ tsp butter.
- toast the sandwich with some butter to golden and crisp.
- spread ½ tsp green chutney and cut the masala toast sandwich into 4 pieces or 6 pieces.
- finally, sprinkle sev and chaat masala before serving masala toast sandwich.
how to make masala toast sandwich with step by step photo:
- firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tsp oil and add 1 tsp mustard, ½ tsp jeera, 1 inch ginger.

- turn off the flame and mix 2 tbsp coriander leaves. aloo masala stuffing is ready.
- spread green chutney over 2 bread slice.
- top on one bread slice with 2 slices of onion and 5 slices of tomato.
- sprinkle a pinch of chaat masala to season vegetables.
- now spread a tbsp of prepared aloo masala.
- also top with 2 rings of capsicum and sprinkle chaat masala.
- cover with another bread slices and spread ½ tsp butter.
- toast the sandwich with some butter.
- also flip over and toast both sides till the sandwich toast turn golden and crisp.
- spread ½ tsp green chutney and cut the masala toast sandwich into 4 pieces or 6 pieces.
- finally, sprinkle sev and chaat masala before serving masala toast sandwich.
notes:
- firstly, replace chilli powder with green chilli in the stuffing.
- also stuff the sandwich with sliced cucumber or beetroot to make sandwich more healthy.
- additionally, grill the masala toast if you prefer rather than pan toast.
- finally, masala toast sandwich taste great when prepared with lots of butter.
