cabbage sabzi recipe | cabbage curry | cabbage ki sabzi north indian style with detailed photo and video recipe. a simple and easy cabbage recipe curry prepared with shredded cabbage leaves, potatoes and green peas. the recipe is so simple and it can be prepared within minutes, yet it tastes amazing as a side dish to roti and chapati.
there are myriad variants of curries and sabzi prepared from shredded cabbage leaves apart from cabbage sabzi recipe. these variants completely dependent upon the region it is prepared and served. i have already shared the south indian version of cabbage poriyal, cabbage chutney and cabbage dal recipe. apart from these i also have cabbage manchurian and veg manchurian from the indian street food section which can be served as starter or side dish. moreover, i am also planning to share the maharastrian version of bandh gobi ki sabzi and gujarati version of kobi vatana bateta nu shaak recipe too.
there are several ways the cabbage curry can be prepared but this recipe post belongs to north indian style. while the recipe for cabbage sabzi or cabbage curry is extremely simple, yet i would like to add some tips and variations. firstly, i have used the knife to finely unevenly chop the cabbage for this recipe. alternatively, if you are running short of time you can also use a food processor to shred it. secondly, i have added finely chopped potatoes and also green peas to add extra flavour to the recipe. but it can be totally skipped or experimented by adding other veggies like capsicum, beans, snow pea and even cauliflower. lastly, i always recommend preparing dry variant of cabbage ki sabzi compared to gravy-based. you can add 4 tbsp of water while cooking to make it moist and watery.

Ingredients
- 3 tsp oil
- 1 tsp jeea / cumin
- 1 tsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- ½ tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 potato / aloo, finely chopped
- ¼ tsp turmeric / haldi
- ½ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder / lal mirch powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- ¾ tsp salt
- 4 cup cabbage, shredded
- ½ cup peas / matar
- ¼ tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
Instructions
- firstly, in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil and saute 1 tsp jeera and 1 tsp kasuri methi till they turn aromatic.
- now add 1 onion followed by ½ tsp ginger garlic paste and saute well.
- additionally, add 1 tomato and saute until they turn soft and mushy.
- furthermore, add 1 finely chopped potato and cook well.
- add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and ¾ tsp salt. saute well.
- further, add 4 cup cabbage and ½ cup peas. mix well.
- cover cook till the cabbage, peas and potatoes are cooked completely.
- now add ¼ tsp garam masala and 2 tbsp coriander leaves. mix well.
- finally, serve cabbage sabzi with hot chapathi or along with rice.
how to make cabbage sabzi recipe with step by step photo:
- firstly, in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil and saute 1 tsp jeera and 1 tsp kasuri methi till they turn aromatic.
- now add 1 onion followed by ½ tsp ginger garlic paste and saute well.
- additionally, add 1 tomato and saute until they turn soft and mushy.
- furthermore, add 1 finely chopped potato and saute for a minute.
- cover and cook for 5 minutes or until potatoes are half cooked.
- add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder and ¾ tsp salt. saute well.
- further, add 4 cup cabbage and ½ cup peas. mix well.
- cover and cook for 5 minutes.
- stir occasionally, to prevent from burning and uniform cooking.
- also, observe cabbage will release some moisture, else add 2 tbsp water and continue to cook for 2 more minutes.
- cook till the cabbage, peas and potatoes are cooked completely.
- now add ¼ tsp garam masala and 2 tbsp coriander leaves. mix well.
- finally, serve cabbage sabzi with hot chapathi or along with rice.
notes:
- firstly, adding potato is completely optional, however, adds flavour.
- additionally, do not overcook cabbage, as crunchy bite make sabzi tastier.
- furthermore, cover and cook else the flavours will be lost.
