dahi chutney recipe | dahi ki chatni | curd mint chutney | yogurt mint dip with detailed photo and video recipe. a spiced and flavored yogurt dip made with strained yoghurt, mint and coriander leaves. it is a popular in both south india and north india and is mainly served as a side dish to hyderabadi biryani or as a dip to tandoor or tikka recipes. the recipe has resemblance to green chutney or mint chutney.
even though the green chutney and mint chutney has a strong similarities between dahi ki chatni, yet these chatni recipes are completely different. the main difference is the usage of hung curd or thick yoghurt in this recipe which makes it unique compared to others. also with the addition of curd, the spice level comes considerably and making it less spicy compared to the others. to be honest dahi chutney recipe is mainly served to bring down the spice level and lower the temperature of main dishes like tandoor tikka’s and biryani’s. moreover the combination of mint and coriander leaves, adds a unique and strong flavour to the main dishes enhancing the whole experience of eating the main dish.
furthermore i would like to add some tips, variations and serving suggestions to this extremely simple dahi chutney recipe. firstly, i used homemade hung curd for this recipe and i would heavily recommend the same for this recipe. having said that, if you are running short of time than you can use store bought greek yoghurt for this recipe. secondly, i have only used mint and coriander leaves in this recipe. but you can also easily extend the recipe by adding 1-2 tbsp of finely chopped onions and blend together with the mint and dhaniya leaves. lastly, adjust the spice level by adding or subtracting green chillies to this recipe. the below mentioned quantity would yield you a medium spice chutney.
