i like all the tambli recipes and i think you can clearly see in my blog as i have dedicated section for it. tambli recipes are very common in my house as we prepare it daily for our lunch. out of all other tambli recipes, menthe tambli is the most popular one. perhaps because of the combination of bitterness, sourness and spicy taste it delivers in each bite. i prepare this tambli by roasting the fenugreek seeds in ghee and than grounding it.

fenugreek seeds have several health benefits, and perhaps it is heavily used in our day to day food. it helps to lower the bad cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart diseases. it is boon to diabetic patients as it lowers sugar level in blood and reduces the body weight. moreover, it is very helpful to breast feeding mothers as it helps to increase the breast milk production.

Ingredients
  

  • ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 red chilli, byadagi
  • ½ cup grated coconut
  • 1 cup curd / yogurt
  • 1 tsp ghee

seasoning Ingredients

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dal / uddina bele
  • few curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • in a frying pan take jeera, menthe/fenugreek seeds and red chilli and fry it with ghee for 2 minutes
  • add coconut to the frying pan and continue to fry for a minute
  • set aside the to cool down
  • transfer all the fried ingredients to blender and add little water to blend it to a smooth paste
  • take 1 cup of curd in a bowl and whisk it to a smooth paste
  • mix the grounded paste to curd
  • add salt as per the taste
  • heat oil in a pan and temper with the tempering ingredients.

  1. in a frying pan take jeera, menthe/fenugreek seeds and red chilli and fry it with ghee for 2 minutes.

notes:

  • frying the fenugreek seeds in ghee is not mandatory. you can use vegetable oil for frying.
  • do not forget to tamper with mustard and urad dal.
  • serve with hot steamed rice
  • optionally, use green chilies instead of red chilies for different color and texture.
