One of the big questions to most working parents is to serve a healthy and quick breakfast to their kids and also for themselves. One of the most common requests I get via Facebook and emails is to post video recipes on quick healthy breakfasts and quick healthy snacks. Honestly, it is not a different situation in my home as well. My husband has to leave for work early in the morning, so most mornings I fall back to the bread toast recipe. But I try to vary it by preparing rava toast, cheese toast, besan bread toast, or just plain toast with strawberry jam. The other easy option I follow is to prepare dosa batter or idli batter in bulk. With these options I somehow try to manage and have healthy, yet quickie breakfasts.

Besan Bread Toast While it is one of the easiest bread toast recipes, here are some easy tips and suggestions for a savory bread besan toast recipe. Firstly, toast the bread on low flame, else besan will not get cooked from the inside. Once it is cooked, it may get a burnt and crisp texture. But it does not mean it cannot be consumed. Also, add vegetables of your choice to make the bread toast more healthy and tasty. You may need to finely chop the vegetables to make it a complete meal. Finally, add a tsp of rice flour/corn flour to the besan batter to make besan toast crispy. It is optional and you may ignore it if you like the besan texture.

  1. Batter Consistency – The besan batter has to be semi-thick and at the same time has to be lump-free with a smooth consistency. This helps the batter to spread evenly across the bread without any patches especially when transferring to tawa.
  2. Bread Type – The best type of bread for this recipe is white square-shaped toast pieces of bread. You can also use sandwich bread, but can be difficult to handle it while frying. Avoid using brown or multi-grain as it may not taste well.
  3. Texture – The best experience of any toast is when it is crisp and smooth in texture. Frying in low flame helps to achieve this texture. Also, you may add corn flour to have the extra crispiness.
  4. Serving – It is best served when it is warm and crisp in texture. Once it is rested it may turn soggy and may not have the best experience consuming it. Also, serve it with green chutney or tomato sauce condiments.
  5. Variations – Adding fine chopped vegetables with besan batter can make it more flavorsome. Adding veggies can be tricky and hence use finely chopped basic vegetables.
