green papaya roti recipe | papita ka roti | healthy roti for heart & cancer with step by step photo and video recipe. rice flour roti or akki rotti recipes are very common in south indian breakfast category. commonly, it is prepared with rice flour and adding flavoured herbs, vegetable grate to make it tastier. but the same rotti can also be extended by adding raw papaya grate to make it a healthy and nutrient roti recipe.

as i was explaining earlier, this recipe is very much inspired by the traditional karnataka akki rotti recipe. in akki rotti, it is added with fresh herbs and spices which makes it flavourful and tasty, but the addition of papaya makes it healthy roti. we all know and acknowledge the health benefits of raw green papaya. it has been included in our cuisine for a while now, but i believe it is always underrated and not give the attention it deserves. apart from the abundance of nutrients it supplies, it also helps to improve the health of the heart, digestive system and prevents skin cancer. while the benefits are countless, but i make this a simple alternative to the traditional akki roti or to introduce a new taste and flavour to my breakfast.

furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions and variants to the green papaya roti recipe. firstly, the use of green raw papaya grate is a great combination of rice flour-based roti. but you can also use it for other types of roti like rava, jowar and any types of millets based roti. secondly, if you feel the raw flavour of papaya is not suitable for you, you may roast it before mixing it with roti ingredients. i personally do not recommend this as it may not give you full benefits. lastly, the chutney is not a must for this recipe and i have shown another recipe using raw papaya. basically, you can serve this roti with any choice of chutney or without it.

Ingredients
  

for green papaya akki rotti:

  • 2 cup rice flour
  • ¼ cup rava / semolina / suji, coarse
  • 1 cup green papaya, grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • ½ carrot, grated
  • 2 chilli, finely chopped
  • few curry leaves, chopped
  • 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp salt
  • water, for kneading
  • oil, for roasting

for green papaya chutney:

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 cup green papaya, grated
  • 1 cup coconut, grated
  • small piece tamarind
  • 2 tbsp putani / roasted gram dal
  • 3 chilli
  • ½ cup mint
  • ½ cup coriander
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup water

Instructions
 

how to make green papaya akki rotti:

  • firstly, in a large bowl take 2 cup rice flour and ¼ cup rava. adding rava is optional, it helps to make rotti slightly soft.
  • add 1 cup green papaya, 1 onion, ½ carrot, 2 chilli, few curry leaves, 2 tbsp coriander and 1 tsp ginger paste.
  • also add 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp salt and mix well. squeeze and mix making sure everything is well combined.
  • now slowly add water in batches and start to make a dough.
  • add water as required to form a smooth and soft dough.
  • you can make rotti on a banana leaf, baking paper or on a wet cloth.
  • to make on a wet cloth, place a ball sized dough and tap gently to a thin thickness.
  • now flip over to hot tawa and press gently.
  • after a minute, peel the cloth off.
  • flip over once the base is cooked.
  • now add oil and roast both sides until it turns slightly golden.
  • finally, enjoy papaya rotti with chutney.

how to make green papaya chutney:

  • firstly, in a pan heat 2 tsp oil and roast 1 cup green papaya.
  • roast until the papaya turns slightly golden brown.
  • cool completely, and transfer to the mixi jar.
  • add 1 cup coconut, a small piece of tamarind, 2 tbsp putani and 3 chilli.
  • also add ½ cup mint, ½ cup coriander and ½ tsp salt.
  • adding 1 cup water grind to a smooth paste.
  • transfer the chutney to a large bowl and pour tempering.
  • finally, papita ki chutney is ready to enjoy with roti, dosa or idli.

  • also, increase the amount of papita if you prefer. however, be aware as it increases body heat.
