Spot Idli Recipe | Hyderabadi Instant Spicy Idli On Tawa with step-by-step photo and video recipe. Idli and breakfast recipes are synonyms, particularly in South Indian cuisine. There are many myriad ways this simple rice and urad dal-based idli can be prepared, but has also led to so many innovations in the street food varieties. One such popular Hyderabadi street food idli recipe is the spot idli recipe which is prepared instantly without the use of a cooker and steaming.

As I was explaining the recipe is an instant idli recipe and is prepared on the spot and hence the name of this recipe. Basically, within the street food vendor space, once the order is received the idli is prepared on tawa on a need basis with spice toppings. In other words, the idli is not prepared in advance like the traditional method. Hence it carries the name of spot idli as it is made instantaneously. My personal opinion about this snack is that no doubt it is an interesting tasty snack meal. However, when compared to the traditional idli, it is nowhere close to the healthy option. It is loaded with butter, and spice as any other street food or chaat recipe. Hence I would label this snack as once in a while and avoid it as a daily meal option.

Spot Idli Recipe Furthermore, some more related and additional tips, suggestions, and variations to the spot idli recipe. Firstly, the idli is prepared with a normal idli batter and does not require any additional ingredients. Therefore, you can reuse the batter and prepare it as an additional snack if you are bored with the simple one. Secondly, the spice mix added to this snack can make it hot and spicy. If you do not have that appetite for a spicy snack, you may reduce the mixture and take it easy. Lastly, these idli’s do not require any side dish like chutney or sambar as it does carry the spice mix it. However, a simple coconut or tomato chutney should not harm and it would make it tastier.
