last time when i posted the multipurpose curry base recipe, i got several requests to post something similar for morning breakfast. hence i posted all-purpose rice and urad dal batter recipe for almost all south indian breakfast. however, it needs a lot of time in preparation, and fermentation can be a problem. hence i thought of making something instant and also a basic recipe. we all know, rava or semolina is one such ingredient which can be used to mimic almost all south indian breakfast recipe. hence i choose it and i am sharing the instant mix recipes out of it. in this post, i have shown, how to make upma, idli and vada, but the options are countless.

furthermore, i would like to add some more tips, suggestions and variations to instant breakfast mix recipe. firstly, i would like to heavily recommend you to use coarse or medium-sized rava for this recipe. the other sized rava is not suitable for this recipe, especially the fine-sized rava. secondly, if you are planning to store this for couple of months do not add any moist ingredients. you may add fried onions if you wish to finish it in a couple of weeks. lastly, for idli and vada, i have added eno salt and baking soda to make it more attractive and fluffy. but you may skip it as it is not an essential ingredient.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 dried red chilli, broken
  • pinch hing / asafoetida
  • 2 chilli, finely chopped
  • 2 inch ginger, finely chopped
  • 10 cashew, chopped
  • 4 cup rava / semolina / suji, coarse
  • 1 tbsp salt

Instructions
 

  • firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp oil, add 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal, few curry leaves, 1 dried red chilli and pinch hing.
  • add 2 chilli, 2 inch ginger and splutter tempering.
  • now add 10 cashew and roast on low flame.
  • further add 4 cup rava and roast on low flame until the rava turns aromatic.
  • add 1 tbsp salt and mix well.
  • finally, instant breakfast mix is ready. store in an airtight container and use up to a month.

how to make instant breakfast mix with step by step photo:

  1. firstly, in a large kadai heat 2 tbsp oil, add 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal, few curry leaves, 1 dried red chilli and pinch hing.
  2. add 2 chilli, 2 inch ginger and splutter tempering.
  3. now add 10 cashew and roast on low flame.
  4. further, add 4 cup rava and roast on low flame until the rava turns aromatic.
  5. add 1 tbsp salt and mix well.
  6. finally, instant breakfast mix is ready. store in an airtight container and use up to a month.

notes:

  • firstly, make sure to roast the rava really well else the recipe may turn sticky.
  • also, if you are storing in the refrigerator, then you can use it up to 20 minutes.
  • additionally, make sure not to burn the tempering.
