khara bath recipe | masala bhath recipe | rava masala bath with detailed photo and video recipe. a simple and easy south indian breakfast recipe made with semolina, veggies and vangi bath masala. the recipe originates from the south indian state of karnataka, but hugely popular in other states too. it is generally served with spicy coconut chutney and also with a small scoop of rava kesari or sheera for morning breakfast.
i have posted quite a few rava recipes for both breakfast and snack, but this recipe of khara bath is very unique. the main reason being the use of vegetable and spices in it. in other words, the recipe is an extension of rava upma recipe or the rava version of vegetable pulav. for the same reason, i do not limit this recipe just for the morning breakfast and i make it for noon lunch box or even for dinner. in addition due to the generous amount of ghee added while preparing it, it makes not only flavourful but also filling. moreover due the dish is loaded with a choice of veggies, which makes it a one-pot meal. hence the dish is served in small portions in karnataka with scoop sheera to make is a complete sweet and savoury meal.
anyway, some tips, suggestions and variations for a perfect and flavoured rava khara bath recipe. firstly, i have used coarse semolina or bombay rava for this recipe and it is ideal for the smooth texture. well you can also make it with bansi rava or fine rava but you may not have the same texture. secondly, you can add the required amount of veggies as it is completely open-ended. having said that keep the quantity of veggies proportional and do not overpower the semolina. lastly, the dish is better served when it is warm. you may have to reheat once it is cooled down.
