Malai Pyaaz Ki Sabzi Recipe | Cream And Onion Curry with step-by-step photo and video recipe. Onion or tomatoes are the primary ingredients for most of the South and North Indian curry recipes. However, it is mainly used as a side or base ingredient with other vegetables, meat, or paneer as a hero ingredient. However, even onion cubes can also be used as a primary ingredient to make premium Malai Pyaaz ki sabzi.

As I mentioned earlier, the recipe is made with just 2 main ingredients. It is diced onion cubes and cooking cream and hence it takes only a few minutes to prepare and cook this recipe. Yet it offers creaminess as compared to any premium and fancy North Indian or Punjabi gravy-based curries. It is perhaps my favorite fallback option when I am not in the mood to make some premium, yet has to satisfy all my family members’ requirements. In addition, the other best part of this recipe is the compatibility. It tastes great when served with a range of roti, Phulka, chapati, and naan recipes. But not limited to it, and tastes great when served with different types of flavored rice recipes.

Furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions, and variations to the Malai Pyaaz ki Sabzi recipe. Firstly, the recipe is best prepared with red onions as compared to other white or green-colored onions. Red onions when fried do hold their shape and do not dissolve with the curry gravy base. Secondly, do not finely chop or dice into small cuts. It has to be diced into cubes so that it feels like a curry and not just a paste. Lastly, if you think just onion cubes can be monotonous, you may add other veggies too. Perhaps, adding veggies like tomatoes, or any leafy vegetables are ideal choice.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • ½ tsp kalonji
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 5 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 chilli, chopped
  • 2 onion, sliced
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup cream / malai
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ tsp mango powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp kasuri methi, crushed
  • 2 tbsp coriander, chopped

Instructions
 

  • Firstly, in a pan heat 2 tbsp oil. Add 1 tsp cumin, ½ tsp kalonji, 1 inch cinnamon, 1 bay leaf, 1 inch ginger, 5 cloves garlic and 2 chilli.
  • Splutter the tempering on medium flame.
  • Add 2 onions and saute for 3 minutes until the onion softens slightly.
  • Keeping the flame on low add ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp cumin powder and ½ tsp salt.
  • Saute on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.
  • Add in ½ cup cream and cook till the oil separates.
  • Further, add 1 cup water and mix well adjusting the consistency.
  • Boil for 3 minutes or until the curry turns creamy.
  • Now add ½ tsp mango powder, ½ tsp garam masala, 2 tbsp kasuri methi and 2 tbsp coriander. Mix well.
  • Finally, enjoy Malai Pyaz Recipe with roti.

  • Firstly, adding mango powder gives sourness to the curry. So make sure not to skip it.
  • Also, keep the onion sabji slightly spicy, as the cream will reduce the spice level.
