it is always healthy to start your day with a healthy breakfast. so i recommend you to serve oats dosa to supplement the required nutritions required in our diet. oats dosa is often served with coconut chutney like coconut chutneyridge gourd chutney, tomato onion chutneysweet potato chutneypeanut chutney, or red chutney.

even though we call this dosa as instant oats dosa, we need to add rice flour and semolina to make it crispy and yummy dosa. by adding rice flour and semolina, it makes more nutritious and healthy instant dosa compared to instant rava and wheat dosa.

Ingredients
  • ¾ cup quick cooking oats / any plain oats
  • ¼ cup bombay rava / semolina / sooji
  • ½ cup rice flour
  • ½ cup sour curd, whisked
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tsp black pepper, crushed
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1 chilli, finely chopped
  • few coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste
Instructions ( 1 cup =255 ml)
  1. grind quick cooking oats in a mixer­ grinder until smooth powder texture.
  2. add powdered oats, rava, rice flour in a large bowl.
  3. also add cumin seeds and salt. mix all the ingredients.
  4. add sour curd/yoghurt and one cup of water. mix it well and make sure there are no lumps formed.
  5. slowly, add more cup of water and give a proper mix.
  6. add onion, ginger, chillies, pepper and coriander. mix it properly.
  7. add more water to adjust the consistency of the batter. it should be watery else the dosa will not be crisp.
  8. keep aside for 20 to 30 minutes.
  9. heat the tava or non-stick pan and spread 1 or 2 tsp oil.
  10. if using non-stick pan then no need to spread oil.
  11. with a ladle pour the batter from the edges towards the center.
  12. sprinkle ½ or 1 tsp of oil from the top.
  13. let the base becomes golden or crisp. no need to cook the other side as the dosa is thin.
  14. remove the dosa from the pan. prepare all the dosas this way.
  15. serve the oats dosa hot with coconut chutney.
  16. oats dosa has to be served immediately, otherwise they become dry once they become cold.

  7. add more water to adjust the consistency of the batter. it should be watery like rava dosa batter else the dosa will not be crisp. keep aside for 20 to 30 minutes.

  8. heat the tava or non-stick pan and spread 1 or 2 tsp oil. if using non-stick pan then no need to spread oil.

  11. let the bottom becomes golden. no need to cook the other side as the dosa is thin.
  12. remove the dosa from the tava and serve.

notes:

  • you can also add grated carrot, fresh coconut for more flavour and nutritions.
  • powder the oats and keep ready before in hand. you can store in airtight container.
  • you can skip green chillies, if you are preparing for kids.
  • the batter must be in pouring consistency to get crispy dosas.
  • adding onion, ginger, chillies, pepper and coriander leaves makes dosa more flavourful.
  • i also prefer to add crushed black pepper and coconut pieces to make it more tasty.
