chana chilli recipe | chilli chana recipe | chilli kabuli channa recipe with detailed photo and video recipe. crispy and spicy indo chinese starter recipe prepared with kabuli white chickpeas with chilli sauce and soy sauce. it is an ideal party starter recipe which can also be extended as dry sabzi or side dish to chapathi or roti’s. this recipe is a dry variant and can also be extended to chana chilli gravy masala recipe.
as mentioned previously, the recipe for chana chilli recipe is extremely simple and it begins with soaking the kabuli chana overnight. next step is to mix it with red chilli powder, salt and corn flour followed by deep frying till crisp. once it is fried till crisp, it follows the same steps as any indo chinese cuisine chilli recipe. the chilli chana recipe begins with the seasoning of green chilli and finely chopped garlic cloves. diced capsicum and onion petals are added to the same pan and stir fried with chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, soy sauce and vinegar. in addition black pepper and sugar are added to the same mixture to have the sweet and spicy taste. finally the deep fried chana is added to the same mixture and topped with spring onion leaves before serving.
some important tips, recommendations and serving tips for this simple spicy and crispy chana chilli recipe. firstly, if using store bought canned chickpeas in this recipe which does not require the soaking it overnight. but you can also use the dry chickpeas but does require the overnight soaking and boiling step. secondly, the same recipe can be extended further to a gravy recipe by adding just tomato puree or onion and tomato and onion puree. lastly, the same recipe can be extended further with other vegetables to prepare the same chilli recipe. you can use vegetables like mushroom, tindora, yam and even eggplant to prepare other veggies variants.

Ingredients
- 1 cup chikpea / chana, soaked & boiled
- ¼ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- ½ tsp salt
- oil for deep frying
- ¼ cup corn flour
for manchurian:
- 2 tsp oil
- 2 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 1 inch ginger, finely chopped
- 2 green chilli, slit
- 4 tbsp spring onions, chopped
- ¼ onion, petals
- 8 cubes capsicum, red & green
- 1 tsp chilli sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- ¼ tsp pepper, crushed
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- ¼ tsp sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
Instructions
- firstly, take 1 cup chikpea, ¼ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp salt and ¼ cup corn flour.
- mix well making sure to coat the chana well.
- deep fry the coated chana in hot oil or bake at 180 degree celsius for 15 minutes.
- stir occasionally, and fry till the chana turns golden and crisp.
- now prepare the sauce by heating 2 tsp oil and saute 2 clove garlic, 1 inch ginger and 2 green chilli.
- further saute 2 tbsp spring onions slightly.
- now add ¼ onion and 8 cubes capsicum.
- saute for a minute or more, till the capsicum shrinks yet crunchy.
- furthermore add 1 tsp chilli sauce, 2 tbsp tomato sauce, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tbsp soy sauce, ¼ tsp pepper, ¼ tsp sugar and ¼ tsp salt.
- saute on high flame till the sauce thickens and turns translucent.
- now add in fried chana and 2 tbsp spring onions. mix well.
- finally, serve, chilli chana as a starter or enjoy with fried rice.
how to make chana chilli with step by step photo:
- firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 1 cup chikpea. make sure to soak chana overnight and pressure cook for 4 whistles. or use canned chickpea.
- add in ¼ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp salt and ¼ cup corn flour.
- mix well making sure to coat the chana well.
- deep fry the coated chana in hot oil or bake at 180 degree celsius for 15 minutes.
- stir occasionally, and fry till the chana turns golden and crisp.
- drain off the chana over kitchen paper to absorb excess oil. keep aside.
- now prepare the sauce by heating 2 tsp oil and saute 2 clove garlic, 1 inch ginger and 2 green chilli.
- further saute 2 tbsp spring onions slightly.
- now add ¼ onion and 8 cubes capsicum.
- saute for a minute or more, till the capsicum shrinks yet crunchy.
- furthermore add 1 tsp chilli sauce, 2 tbsp tomato sauce, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tbsp soy sauce, ¼ tsp pepper, ¼ tsp sugar and ¼ tsp salt.
- saute on high flame till the sauce thickens and turns translucent.
- now add in fried chana and 2 tbsp spring onions. mix well.
- finally, serve, chilli chana as a starter or enjoy with fried rice.
notes:
- firstly, soak and pressure cook chana well else, it will be raw.
- also, add chilli sauce depeidng on the spice level you are looking for.
- additiaonnly, chana chilli taste great when froed till it turns crispy.
- finally, chana chilli recipe taste great when served hot.
