poha chaat recipe 2 ways | poha chivda chaat & poha theeka chaat recipe with detailed photo and video recipe. an easy and interesting chaat recipe prepared with both thin and thick poha using basic vegetables and chivda mixture. it is simple and quick to make without any additional requirement of chaat gravy or curries. moreover, it can also be served as a lite and quick dinner meal and not just dedicated to evening snacks and appetiser meals.

poha chaat recipe 2 ways | poha chivda chaat & poha theeka chaat recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. chaat recipes have become a popular street food meal, especially in urban dwellers. it is generally prepared with deep-fried puri, chatpata white peas curry or with a combination of vegetables. however, it can also experiment with other basic ingredients like poha and this post dedicates to the poha chaat recipe in 2 ways.

as i was explaining, i have shown 2 ways in this post using both thin and thick poha. however, the thin poha variant is not a new innovation, but just an extension to the poha chivda recipe. in other words, i just prepared the chivda and then mixed it with finely chopped cucumber, tomatoes and onions with a generous amount of mixture in it. well, if you are a fan of chivda recipes, you would certainly love this extension for sure. the other variant is made using thick poha. basically, i have roasted the poha in less amount of oil and then followed the same set of vegetables and mix to prepare the chaat. this is just a variant of the popular bhel recipe where puffed rice is replaced with thick roasted poha. again, if you like bhel, you should certainly try this variant too.

furthermore, some more variants, tips, suggestions and extensions to the poha chaat recipe. firstly, with respect to the poha chivda, you can follow this video post and prepare it for later use. you can easily store it in an airtight container with a shelf life of 2-3 weeks. you can either serve it as a chaat or as it is without any additional toppings. secondly, you may also attempt the theeka poha chaat or the thick poha chaat with thin poha too. however, note that the thin variant can easily get soggy so has to be quick in serving. lastly, with the vegetable topping, i have used carrot, tomatoes, onions and cucumber which makes it an ideal chaat recipe. yet, you can add additional vegetable toppings as per your choice of preference.

Ingredients
 

for poha chivda chaat:

  • 2 cup thin poha
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp peanut
  • 2 tbsp roasted gram dal
  • 2 tbsp cashew
  • 2 tbsp almonds
  • 2 tbsp dry coconut (sliced)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 dried red chilli
  • few curry leaves
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ tomato (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp cucumber (chopped)
  • ½ carrot (grated)
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • ½ lemon
  • ½ tsp chaat masala
  • ½ cup mixture

for theeka poha chaat:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 cup thick poha
  • ½ onion (finely chopped)
  • ½ tomato (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp cucumber (chopped)
  • ½ carrot (grated)
  • 1 tbsp green chutney
  • 1 tbsp tamarind chutney
  • ½ tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 2 tbsp coriander (finely chopped)
  • ½ lemon
  • ½ cup mixture

Instructions
 

how to make poha chivda chaat:

  • firstly in a heavy-bottomed pan dry roast 2 cup thin poha on low flame.
  • roast until the poha turns crisp, keep aside.
  • in a large kadai 2 tbsp oil, 2 tbsp peanut and roast until it turns crunchy.
  • add 2 tbsp roasted gram dal, 2 tbsp cashew, 2 tbsp almonds and 2 tbsp dry coconut.
  • roast until the nuts turn crunchy.
  • further add 1 tsp cumin, 2 dried red chilli and a few curry leaves. splutter the tempering.
  • now add ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp salt and 1 tsp sugar.
  • saute on low flame until the spices turn aromatic.
  • add roasted poha and mix gently.
  • mix until everything is well combined. poha chivda is ready.
  • to prepare the chaat, in a bowl add ½ onion, ½ tomato, 2 tbsp cucumber, ½ carrot and 2 tbsp coriander.
  • also, add ½ lemon, ½ tsp chaat masala and mix well.
  • now add 1½ cup prepared poha chivda and ½ cup mixture. mix well.
  • finally, enjoy poha chivda chaat topped with onions.
