sooji upma

upma recipe 3 ways | sooji upma | rava upma | uppittu recipe with step by step photo and video recipe. south indian breakfast recipes are always known for their taste and simplicity. most of the time it is made with some of the basic ingredients available at home which not only filling but also healthy and tasty. one such easy breakfast variety is the upma recipe and this post covers 3 basic upma variants made across south india for breakfast and snacks.

i am not a huge fan of basic or classic upma recipes and i only make it whenever there is demand for it from family or friends. i generally like the tomato bath or vegetable upma which has the extra spice and flavour in it. i trust that each and every family have their own story about the upma variants and the toppings added to it. well for the classic upma, i have followed the traditional way, but the other 2 variants, i have inherited from my family. the first one is the tomato upma or tomato bath which is topped with a generous amount of vangi bath masala with the goodness of chunky tomatoes. the other variant is the vegetable upma and it is sooji or rava variant of pulao. you basically add all types of vegetables with fresh herbs and spices to make it more filling.

furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions and variants to the sooji upma recipe in 3 ways. firstly, the recipe has to be prepared in bombay rava and do not attempt this with any other rava variants. as matter of fact, you may try this same recipe with other ingredients like oats, millets and even broken wheat. secondly, once you prepare this, i would strongly recommend serving it some savoury side like poha or mixture. this would balance the flavour and also enhance the taste of upma. lastly, once the upma is rested it may lose its moisture and hence it is better to reheat or microwave it before serving.

finally, i request you to check my other related breakfast recipes collection with this post of upma recipe 3 ways. it mainly includes my other related recipes like bread dosa, vegetable pancake, besan dosa, rice paddu, idiyappam, aloo puri, goli idli, leftover rice idli, palak patra, bun dosa. further to these i would also like to mention my other related recipe categories like,

  1. Seriously flawed recipes. Rava is always roasted, else it gets sticky. That’s missing in all the three recipes.
