garlic paneer curry recipe | lasooni paneer recipe | lehsuni paneer with step by step photo and video recipe. paneer based curries are very common across india and are made for myriad reasons. the popular one is loaded with cream and flavoured with spices to make it lip-smacking. however there are other variants to and one such simple and easy paneer based curry is lasooni paneer recipe, known for its garlicky flavour.

i am a huge fan of paneer recipes and i guess you may have noticed that via my blog. i have posted different types of paneer recipes, including curry, snacks, desserts and even appetiser. my search for paneer recipes is never-ending, and while i was preparing this curry, there were so many paneer variants popping up in my mind. paneer is one such versatile ingredient and it can easily blend in almost all recipes. in this recipe, i have tried to make it similar to the paneer tikka masala recipe. basically i have marinated the paneer cubes in a garlic and yoghurt based sauce with other tikka masalas. so you would have the combination of both garlic and tikka masala.

furthermore, i would like to include some more tips, suggestions and variants to lasooni paneer recipe. firstly, the paneer has to be fresh, moist and juicy so that it absorbs all the flavour in it. i make it freshly, but you may use fresh store-bought paneer. secondly, i have made this recipe as a gravy based dish, but you can also make it as a dry variant. you may need to reduce the onion and tomatoes used to make the gravy and adjust the consistency accordingly. lastly, i have added finely chopped onions while preparing the final dish (i am not referring the gravy preparing step). you may skip it, if you feel too many onions for this dish.

Ingredients
  

for marination:

for onion tomato paste:

  • 3 tsp oil
  • 4 pod cardamom
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 6 cloves
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • 2 clove garlic, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomato, chopped
  • 2 tbsp cashew

for curry:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ onion, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp cumin powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cream
  • 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
  • ¼ tsp garam masala

for tempering:

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 2 clove garlic, sliced
  • ¼ tsp chilli powder

Instructions
 

marination preparation:

  • firstly, in a large bowl take ½ cup curd, 1 tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp garam masala, 1 tsp kasuri methi, 1 tbsp garlic paste, 1 tsp lemon juice, 1 tsp oil and ¼ tsp salt.
  • mix well making sure everything is well combined.
  • add 15 cubes paneer and mix until paneer is well coated.
  • refrigerate for 30 minutes making sure all the paneer are well absorbed.

onion tomato paste preparation:

  • firstly, in a large kadai heat 3 tsp oil, 4 pod cardamom, 1 tsp pepper, 6 cloves, 1 inch cinnamon. saute slightly until the spices turn aromatic.
  • now add 2 clove garlic, 1 inch ginger, 1 onion and saute until onion changes colour.
  • further add 2 tomato, 2 tbsp cashew and saute well.
  • cook until the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
  • cool completely, and transfer to the blender.
  • blend to smooth paste adding water as required. keep aside.

curry preparation:

  • firstly, in a large kadai heat 1 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp oil. add 1 tsp cumin, 1 bay leaf and saute until the spices turn aromatic.
  • add ½ onion and saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  • further keeping the flame on low, add ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp cumin powder and ¾ tsp salt. saute until the spices turn aromatic.
  • now add in prepared onion tomato paste and cook well.
  • cover and cook until the paste is well cooked separating oil.
  • now add in marinated paneer and mix well.
  • add water as required and just the consistency.
  • cover and cook for 5  minutes or until the oil separates.
  • further add 2 tbsp cream, 2 tbsp coriander and ¼ tsp garam masala. mix well.
  • now prepare the tempering, by heating 2 tsp oil add 2 clove garlic.
  • saute until the garlic turns golden brown. add ¼ tsp chilli powder and mix well.
  • finally, pour the tempering over the curry and enjoy garlic paneer curry with roti.

  • firstly, make sure to marinate the paneer in garlic paste for at least 30 minutes.
  • also, garlic flavour is dominating in this curry. if you do not like garlic, then reduce accordingly.
  • additionally, adding cream is optional. however, the curry tastes great when prepared spicy and creamy.
