Like any other paratha recipe, the onion besan masala is stuffed inside the dough and prepared by roasting it on low flame. It is typically served or eaten without any side dish, but it can be served with any choice of Indian curries or sabzis.

There are several ways to prepare the pyaz ka paratha recipe, but most commonly, it is prepared in 2 ways. The parathas can be either stuffed with onion masala or onions can be added directly while kneading the paratha dough. This recipe post describes the former option.
It has been a while since I had posted any paratha recipe,ย andย onion paratha was due for a long time. Even though I prepare parathas daily, it took me a while to post this recipe with a video. I personally prepare it by mixing the sautรฉed onion with the wheat dough because I feel it is much easier to prepare. But in this recipe, I have chosen the stuffing way for 2 reasons: i.e. the onion masala gets spread evenly, and the parathas can be rolled easily. The other option is I personally feel to get the best taste of paratha, it has to be stuffed. Otherwise, without stuffing, it is just a spiced chapati or rotis.
While there arenโt many complicated steps with the onion paratha recipe, here are some tips to make it perfect. Firstly, cut the onions super fine, else it will be challenging to roll the paratha thinly. I would prefer red onions as they are juicy and sharp but not limited to them. Secondly, do not keep the stuffing for a long time, as onions release moisture and will be difficult to roll. It is always better to prepare the paratha rather than to ler the stuffing rest. Lastly, Pyaaz ka paratha tastes excellent when the stuffing is slightly spicy. If you are serving it spicy, then it is best served with curd/yoghurt, which helps reduce the heat.

About Onion Paratha
An easy and simple stuffed flatbread recipe made with wheat flour and a combination of onions and besan spiced masala. Onion Paratha, most commonly known as Pyaz Ka Paratha, is a common alternative to cooked vegetable paratha like aloo or gobi paratha. Generally, it is prepared by stuffing the besan and onion-based masala inside the wheat dough bread. But it can also be done by mixing the spiced onion directly with the dough to make it Onion Roti.
There are many use cases for this paratha; the most common purpose is to pack it up in lunch or tiffin boxes. Compared to other parathas, which typically need more effort to cook vegetables. However, Onion Paratha does not include such complicated steps and procedures. It only takes 5-7 minutes to prepare the stuffing and hence can be prepared in a jiffy. Moreover, the spice stuffing is balanced and requires no additional sides or condiments.

Onion Paratha Recipe - Dhaba Style | Pyaz Ka Paratha
Ingredients
!for onion stuffing:
- 2 tsp oil
- 1 tsp cumin
- pinch hing
- 2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 chilli, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- ยฝ tsp turmeric
- ยฝ tsp chilli powder
- ยฝ tsp cumin powder
- ยฝ tsp coriander powder
- ยฝ tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp aamchur
- 1 tsp salt
- ยผ cup besan
- 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp kasuri methi, crushed
!for dough:
- 2 cup wheat flour
- ยฝ tsp salt
- water, for kneading

- wheat flour, for dusting
- oil, for roasting
Instructions
- Firstly, in a pan heatย 2 tsp oil. Addย 1 tsp cumin, pinch hing, and saute till the spices turn aromatic.
- Addย 2 onion, 2 chilli,ย 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, and saute till the onion softens.
- Keeping the flame on low, addย ยฝ tsp turmeric, ยฝ tsp chilli powder, ยฝ tsp cumin powder, ยฝ tsp coriander powder, ยฝ tsp garam masala, 1 tsp aamchur, and 1 tsp salt.
- Saute till the spices turn aromatic.
- Also, addย ยผ cup besan and saute till the besan turns aromatic.
- Further addย 2 tbsp coriander,ย 2 tbsp kasuri methi and mix well. Onion stuffing is ready, keep it aside.
- Add 2 cup wheat flour and ยฝ tsp salt to prepare the dough.
- Add water as required and knead to a smooth dough.
- Now pinch a ball-sized dough and make a cup by pressing from the sides.
- Place a ball-sized prepared onion stuffing in the center. Take the edge and start pleating bringing it to the centre.
- Also, join the pleats together and secure tight pinching off excess dough.
- Sprinkle some wheat flour and roll slightly thick.
- On a hot tawa place the rolled paratha and cook for a minute.
- Furthermore, flip the paratha when the base is partly cooked (after a minute).
- Also, brush oil/ghee and press slightly. Flip again once or twice till both sides are cooked properly.
- Finally, serve hotย Onion Paratha with sauce, raita, or pickle.

Notes
- Firstly, adding besan helps absorb the moisture from the stuffing.
- Also,ย make sure to prepare the stuffing just before making paratha. Else the onion will release moisture and will be difficult to roll.
- Additionally, the paratha must be roasted well so the onion will get cooked well.
- Finally, roasting the paratha with ghee gives it a nice flavor to Pyaz Paratha Recipe.
