As I mentioned earlier, this recipe of paneer tawa masala is a unique dish with semi-gravy or semi-dry recipes. Unlike any other curry, tawa paneer is made with pav bhaji masala, which has a fusion of flavours. The recipe was crafted accidentally by street vendors. The curry was made with leftover pav bhaji gravy, paneer, and diced capsicums on a large pav bhaji tawa. It resembles the other tawa pulao recipe, where rice is mixed with leftover pav bhaji masala. The beauty of this dish is that it can be served as a side dish for roti, chapati, or any Indian flatbread. You can also serve it as a starter or appetiser in flavoured rice dishes.
Furthermore, I would like to highlight some tips, suggestions, and variations of this tawa paneer recipe. Firstly, the recipe has to be made with fresh, juicy and moist paneer cubes. I have used homemade paneer cubes for the same, but you can use fresh store-bought ones. Secondly, paneer tawa fry is generally made as semi-gravy or semi-dry as a side dish. But this can also be made completely dry and served as starters or appetisers. But you may have to check the spice level accordingly. Finally, you can experiment with the recipe with other veggies on top of paneer cubes. I have already added capsicum and onions, but you can add broccoli, peas and also snow peas.

Tawa Paneer Masala Recipe | Paneer Tawa Fry - Dhaba Style
Ingredients
for marination:
- ¼ cup curd
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- ¼ tsp garam masala
- ¼ tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp kasuri methi
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp oil
- 16 cubes paneer
for curry:
- 2 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp cumin
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- ½ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- ½ tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- 2 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 capsicum, chopped
- ½ cup water
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp kasuri methi, crushed
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
Instructions
- Firstly, in a bowl take ¼ cup curd, ¼ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp garam masala, ¼ tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp kasuri methi, ½ tsp sal,t and 2 tsp oil.
- Mix well making sure everything is well combined.
- Add 16 cubes of paneer and mix coating the marination well. Marinate for 30 minutes.
- In a pan heat 2 tbsp oil and splutter ½ tsp cumin.
- Also add 1 onion, 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and saute till the onions turn golden brown.
- Keeping the flame on low add ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp chilli powder, ½ tsp cumin powder, ½ tsp coriander powder. Saute on low flame till the spices turn aromatic.
- Now add 2 tomato and cook well till the oil separates.
- Further add 1 capsicum and stir fry till the capsicum turns crunchy.
- Also, add in marinated paneer and cook well.
- Add in ½ cup water, ½ tsp salt, and mix adjusting the consistency as required.
- Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until the curry is well cooked.
- Now add 2 tbsp kasuri methi, ½ tsp garam masala, and 2 tbsp coriander. Mix gently.
