i had posted this recipe long back and had posted without a recipe video. well, i had plans to share the video long back, but i guess this is the correct time during the crisis of corona virus or covid-19 to re-share it again. most of us are now looking for some home remedies to keep ourselves fit and healthy, kashayam recipe should be one such beverage frequently made and served. having said that, i make the kashayam recipe frequently and store the powder in a large airtight container. once in a while i have it for my evening drink as an alternative to my evening coffee of tea. it not only helps to improve the immunity but also helps to relieve sore throat by providing the necessary heat to the throat. either way, you can serve it to your friends or family members, depending upon the situation.

furthermore, i would like to mention some tips, suggestions and variations to kashayam recipe. firstly, in this recipe, i have used a combination of spices like coriander, jeera, pepper, cloves as its primary ingredients. having said that you may extend this recipe by adding other spice like fenugreek seeds and cinnamon. secondly, the addition of milk is only to lower the spice temperature and as such does not have any advantages to the recipe. you may skip it and add the powder to boiling water. lastly, adding jaggery is to make the drink pleasant and tasty. you may add honey or even sugar as an alternative if you do not have access to jaggery.

Ingredients
  

for kashaya powder:

  • ½ cup coriander seeds
  • ¼ cup cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp fennel / saunf
  • 6 pods cardamom
  • 10 clove
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp ginger powder

for 2 serving:

  • cup water
  • 2 tbsp jaggery
  • ¼ cup milk

Instructions
 

  • firstly, in a pan take ½ cup coriander seeds, ¼ cup cumin seeds, 2 tsp pepper, 1 tsp fennel.
  • also add 6 pods cardamom, 10 clove and dry roast on low flame.
  • dry roast until spices turn aromatic.
  • cool completely, and transfer to a blender.
  • also, add ½ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp ginger powder.
  • blend to fine powder without adding any water. kashaya powder is ready, store in an airtight container.
  • to prepare kashaya, in a saucepan take 2½ cup water and add 3 tsp of prepared kashaya powder.
  • also, add 2 tbsp jaggery. you can alternatively add sugar for sweetness.
  • stir well and boil for 5 minutes or until flavours are absorbed well.
  • turn off the flame and add ¼ cup milk. mix well.
  • finally, enjoy kashaya to cure cough, fever or boost immunity.

  • firstly, make sure to dry roast spices on low flame without burning.
  • also, you can add spices of your choice to enhance the flavour.
  • additionally, prepare the kashayam powder in bulk and store in an airtight container for a month.
  • finally, adding jaggery to kashaya is completely optional.
