aloo matar recipe | aloo mutter recipe | alu matar recipe with detailed photo and video recipe. a simple and easy north indian cuisine curry or sabzi recipe prepared with basic ingredients like potatoes and green peas. unlike other punjabi curries, potato and peas is a simple curry without the fancy stuff like cream and cashew paste.
i have been always a huge fan of paneer recipes or paneer curries, when it comes to north indian or punjabi cuisine recipes. yet i have a special place to this subtle aloo matar recipe which is an everyday dish in my house. i have a lot of varieties with this simple aloo mutter recipe which includes restaurant style, dhaba style. but this is simple, less fancy curry and can be prepared by even amateur cook. the recipe can be easily extended to restaurant style by adding cashews paste and also full cream. you may add the cashews paste while the curry is cooking and top it with cream once the cooking is completed. i would recommend you to extend it only if you are preparing for your guests and it should be fine for daily use.
furthermore some easy tips and recommendations while preparing aloo matar recipe. firstly, i have used both onion and tomatoes as the base for the aloo mutter curry. but if you are looking for no onion no garlic recipe, than you can easily skip it and it should taste equally good. secondly, i have used pressure cooker to prepare and hasten the cooking process. but it is not mandatory and can be prepared even in open pot. lastly, the recipe can also be easily extended by adding more veggies to prepare the corresponding curries. ideally the combination of these veggies like gobi, capsicum, beans, carrots and broccoli tastes good.

Ingredients
- 4 tsp oil
- ½ inch cinnamon / dalchini
- 2 pods cardamom / elachi
- 1 tsp kasuri methi / dry fenugreek leaves
- ½ tsp cumin / jeera
- ½ tsp turmeric / haldi
- 1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- ½ tsp coriander powder
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 to mato, finely chopped
- 2 potato / aloo, peeled & cubed
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup peas / matar
- 1 cup water
- 1 green chilli, slit
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
Instructions
- firstly, in a pressure cooker heat 4 tsp oil and saute ½ inch cinnamon, 2 pods cardamom, 1 tsp kasuri methi, ½ tsp cumin till it turns aromatic.
- now add in ½ tsp turmeric, 1 tsp kashmiri red chilli powder and ½ tsp coriander powder. saute on low flame for 30 seconds.
- further add 1 onion and saute well.
- additionally add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and saute well.
- now add 2 tomato and saute till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.
- furthermore, add 2 potato cubed and 1 tsp salt.
- saute for a minute or more.
- further add ½ cup peas, 1 cup water and 1 green chilli.
- mix well and pressure cook for 3 whistles or till potato gets cooked well.
- once the pressure gets settled down, mash slightly adjusting consistency.
- add in ½ tsp garam masala and 2 tbsp coriander leaves. mix well.
- finally, serve aloo matar recipe with roti, kulcha or naan.

notes:
- firstly, pressure cook potato for 3 or 4 whistles or till it gets cooked well.
- further, use tomato puree if you prefer slightly watery gravy.
- additionally, use fresh peas or frozen peas else soak the raw peas overnight before pressure cooking.
- finaly, aloo matar recipe taste great when prepared slightly watery.
