Jowar Paratha Recipe | Healthy Jowar Thepla | Sorghum Flour Paratha with step-by-step photo and video recipe. Wheat and plain flour-based bread or roti recipes are very common across India for their easy preparation and digestion reasons. Yet we look for other better and healthy alternatives as we may develop medical complications. One such easy and healthy alternative roti recipe prepared with sorghum flour is the jowar paratha or thepla known for its taste and filling properties.

I have prepared quite a few healthy rotis till now in my blog, but this has to be the most healthy thepla ever. The reason is the use of jowar flour with methi or fenugreek leaves. This makes it an ideal diabetic-friendly roti. We all know jowar is the best alternative for any medical complications, but the combination with methi leaves takes it to another level. The only downside with this roti is the taste of it. If you are used to wheat or besan flour-based thepla’s, you may find it dry or filling. In that case, I would recommend using some gravy-based curries which should help in eating it. In addition, these rotis can also be served as weight loss roti. It is mainly because of the high fiber and low carbohydrates in both jowar and methi leaves. Do try this roti and let me know if you would replace it for your daily roti and chapati.

Healthy Jowar Thepla Furthermore, some more and additional tips, and suggestions for a tasty and healthy jowar paratha recipe. Firstly, I have limited myself to just fenugreek leaves, but you may extend with other vegetables too. You may add finely grated veggies like carrots, cabbage, radish, and even boiled mashed potatoes. Secondly, I have made these thepla’s thick in size and consistency. Jowar-based roti or thepla are generally thick in size, but that is not mandatory. You may reduce its size as per your choice and preference. Lastly, if you find only jowar can be monotonous and tasteless, you may add other types of flour too. You may follow a 1:1 ratio with jowar and wheat flour, plain flour, or besan flour as per your taste preference.
