i usually get bored of eating plain oats with milk. so i try various oats recipes. the most popular and easiest as well as healthy recipes are oats idli, oats upma, oats dosa recipe. khichdi taste great when prepared with ghee and served hot. however, if you are diet conscious then replace with oil. moreover, oats are rich in fibre, magnesium, iron and vitamins. additionally, it helps to control weight and also and reduces the risk of heart diseases, cholesterol problems.
whenever, i am bored and still wish to have tasty breakfast i usually prepare oats khichdi. one of my friend shared this recipe and she serves to her 8 month old baby. however, i have altered a bit in this recipe by adding little more spices. moreover, if you are feeding to your kids then try to add varieties of vegetables to his diet. i like my khichdi to be slightly spicy so i have used green chilli. lastly, i like to enjoy my khichdi with curd and pickle.

Ingredients
- ½ cup moong dal
- 1 cup rolled oats
- cumin / jeera - 1 tsp
- 1 inch ginger (chopped)
- 1 green chilli (chopped)
- onion (finely chopped - 1 small)
- ½ carrot (chopped)
- 4 beans (chopped)
- 4 cups water
- ½ tsp turmeric
- pinch of hing / asafetida
- 1 tsp ghee
- salt to taste
Instructions
- firstly, wash and soak moong dal in water for 5 minutes.
- furthermore, heat the ghee in a pressure cooker, add cumin seeds and hing.
- when they sizzle, add curry leaves and ginger. saute till it turns aromatic.
- additionally, add chopped onions, green chilli and saute till they change colour to pinkish.
- oats khichdi
- furthermore, add tomatoes and fry till they turn soft and mushy.
- later add carrot and beans (or veggies of your choice) and saute for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- drain the water from half cup dal and add along with turmeric. fry for about 2 to 3 minutes.
- furthermore, add 1 cup of oats, salt and fry for about 2 minutes.
- pour 4 cups of water. and give a mix.
- you can adjust the quantity of water to make it mushy or slightly grainy. on a medium flame, pressure cook for two whistle.
- finally, serve oats khichdi warm after garnishing with some coriander leaves with raita.

notes:
- firstly, serve khichdi immediately to avoid turning thick and sticky.
- additionally, avoid using chilli and hing if you are preparing for kids.
- moreover, if desired you can add little more ghee while serving.
- finally, if you are eating after some time then adjust the consistency by adding more water before serving.
