pancharatna sweet recipe | pancharatna halwa | pancharatna barfi with detailed photo and video recipe. one of the simple and easy sweet or barfi recipes made with a combination of 5 dry fruits and nuts. it is one of the simple dessert recipes which is not only healthy to consume but also act as an energy bar for the choice nuts used in it. this is one such indian sweet recipe that can be prepared for any occasion, celebration and stack it up in a box and for future use.
i have posted quite a few energy bars or dry fruit-based dessert recipes, but this recipe of pancharatna sweet is unique. firstly this is a traditional indian sweet recipe that has all the features and characteristics of an indian sweet. in other words, it is a healthy sweet but may not be termed as weight loss or healthy dessert as it does contain jaggery as its sweet source. this is particularly made as celebration dessert in south india and served in lunch and dinner feast. yet it can also be prepared for festivals like raksha bandhan or chaturthi and share with friends and family.
furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions and variants to the popular pancharatna sweet recipe. firstly, the recipe is specific to 5 different dry fruits and hence the name of pancharatna sweet which means 5 gems. hence there is no point in adding more or subtracting the choice of dry fruits for this recipe. secondly, i have particularly used black jaggery for the syrup. it has more stickiness, and more importantly, it makes the sweet more attractive. lastly, for the shape, you can either shape it like a traditional barfi sweet or you may follow the roll shape as shown in this video post.

Ingredients
- 1 cup dates / khajoor, pitted
- ½ cup raisins
- 1 cup hot water
- ½ cup cashew, chopped
- ¼ cup almonds, chopped
- 2 tsp poppy seeds
- 1 cup dry coconut, grated
- 1 cup jaggery
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tsp ghee
- 2 tbsp badam, powdered
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
Instructions
- firstly, in a bowl take 1 cup of dates and ½ cup raisins.
- soak in 1 cup hot water for 30 minutes or until it softens.
- transfer to the mixi and blend to smooth paste. keep aside.
- in a heavy-bottomed pan, take ½ cup cashew, ¼ cup almonds.
- roast on low flame until the nuts turn crunchy.
- also, add 2 tsp poppy seeds and 1 cup dry coconut.
- roast until the coconut turns slightly golden brown. keep aside.
- in a large kadai, take 1 cup jaggery and ¼ cup water.
- stir until the jaggery melts. continue to boil until 2 string consistency is achieved.
- now add in dates raisins paste and cook.
- cook for 3-4 minutes or until the mixture thickens. make sure to cook well, else the burfi will be sticky.
- further, add roasted nuts and mix well.
- also, add 1 tsp ghee and continue to cook until the mixture separates the pan.
- additionally, add 2 tbsp powdered badam and ¼ tsp cardamom powder.
- mix well, combining everything well. adding powdered badam helps to absorb excess moisture, adjust the quantity accordingly.
- now transfer to the baking paper and shape to a log shape.
- roll into roasted sesame seeds and roll tightly in butter paper.
- refrigerate for 60 minutes, or until the burfi is set completely.
- finally, cut into desired shapes and enjoy pancharatna halwa for 2 weeks.

- also, you can set the mixture in a tray and cut it into square pieces instead of rolls.
