avalakki rotti recipe | poha roti recipe | avalakki akki rotti with detailed photo and video recipe. one of the easy and simple breakfast recipes made with a combination of beaten rice and rice flour. it is basically an extension to the popular akki rotti recipe from south india with the addition of poha or beaten rice to the same set of spice ingredients and herbs. unlike the traditional akki rotti which is crisp in nature, these poha roti are softer and easy to shape due to the use of thin poha with rice flour.
as i was trying to explain, this recipe is just an extension of the popular akki rotti recipe. well, we are adding just one ingredient to the akki roti ingredients but the impact is quite significant. basically, in a nutshell, it helps to soften the roti’s and also makes it easy to shape and stretch. i keep getting these questions about akki rotti breaking or not being able to shape it. well if you struggle while doing akki roti, then avalakki rotti recipe is your simple answer. the main behaviour of rice flour is to make things crisp. so obviously, the akki rotti would turn hard and hence adding beaten rice would fix this problem.
furthermore, some more additional tips, suggestions and variants to the avalakki rotti recipe. firstly, i have used thin rice poha for this recipe which is an ideal choice. you may choose other variants like medium and thick poha too but it may need additional soaking as it would need some time to soften. secondly, while shaping you may use banana leaf or baking paper and also use the same to put on the top of the frying pan. but avoid using plastic sheets or plastic paper as it may burn and may get into the rotis while frying. lastly, these rotti’s usually taste great when served with spicy chutney but you serve it with simple chutney pudi or even pickle.

Very nice recipe. Probably a good idea to add a handful of kotmeer and a few sprigs o f mint leaves to the coconut chutney. Roasting the green chilli will take the bite out of chillies and make the chutney more pleasant to eat.
