aloo chana chat recipe | aloo chole chaat | aloo chanay ki chaat with a detailed photo and video recipe. an ideal and simple chaat recipe made with boiled chickpeas and potatoes in spicy chaat chutney toppings. it is ideal street food or chaat recipe which can be made within minutes with the basic ingredients available in most of the indian kitchen. it is basically an extension to the popular aloo chaat or papdi chaat made with extra toppings of boiled chickpeas.
as i was explaining earlier, there are some simpler and some complex chaat recipes. this recipe of aloo chana chat recipe belongs to the simpler categories due to the use of ingredients in it. in other words, the key hero ingredients used in this recipe is boiled potatoes, chickpeas which makes it super simple. as a matter of fact, if you have the chaat chutney and sev ready, you may well make most of the chaat recipes anyway. this recipe of aloo chole chaat is anyway an extension to my previous post of aloo chaat recipe where i have added boiled and mashed chickpeas as an extra ingredient. you may very well extend it further by adding ragda, mashed samosa, kachori, and white peas. i personally like it this way, without any shenanigans, but you may explore it the way you want.
furthermore, i would like to add some more tips, suggestions, and variations to this aloo chana chat recipe. firstly, i would heavily recommend making this recipe when you are about to serve it. for example, if you are planning it for parties or guests, you may prepare all the ingredients well ahead in advance and assemble it when it is about to be served. secondly, if you find both potatoes and chickpeas together gastroenteritis, then you may skip either one of them to make just aloo chaat or chana chaat. moreover, as an alternative to chickpeas, you may even add white peas or ragda as a variation. lastly, in this recipe, i have no added spicy red garlic chutney and limited to green and imli chutney. the green chutney should provide sufficient spice to the dish, but you may very well add red chutney if you desire more spiciness.

Ingredients
for aloo chana mixture:
- 1 potato / aloo, boiled & chopped
- 1 cup chikpea / chana, soaked & boiled
- 1 tsp green chutney
- 1 tsp tamarind chutney
- 2 tbsp curd, whisked
- ¼ tsp kashmiri red chilli powder
- ¼ tsp salt
for plating:
- 3 papdi
- 1 tbsp curd
- 2 tsp green chutney
- 2 tsp tamarind chutney
- 2 tbsp onion, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp tomato, finely chopped
- pinch chilli powder
- pinch cumin powder
- pinch aamchur / dry mango powder
- pinch chaat masala
- pinch salt
- 3 tbsp sev
- 1 tbsp pomegranate
- 1 tsp coriander, finely chopped
Instructions
- firstly, in a bowl take 1 potato and 1 cup chickpea.
- add 1 tsp green chutney, 1 tsp tamarind chutney and 2 tbsp curd.
- also, add ¼ tsp chilli powder and ¼ tsp salt.
- mix well making sure all the spices are well combined.
- transfer the aloo chana mixture to a serving plate.
- crush 3 papdi over the mixture. papdis are optional, however it gives crunchy bite to chaat.
- top with 1 tbsp curd, 1 tsp green chutney and 1 tsp tamarind chutney.
- also, add 1 tbsp onion and 1 tbsp tomato.
- further, sprinkle a pinch of chilli powder, cumin powder, aamchur, chaat masala and salt.
- top with 3 tbsp sev, 1 tsp onion and 1 tsp tomato.
- now again top with 1 tsp green chutney and 1 tsp tamarind chutney.
- finally, top with 1 tbsp pomegranate, 1 tsp coriander and enjoy aloo chana chat.
how to make aloo chana chat with step by step photo:
