rava rotti recipe | sajjige rotti | sooji roti | semolina roti with detailed photo and video recipe. a traditional and healthy pancake or bread recipe made with semolina dough with mixed herbs. it is a simple and easy breakfast recipe from the popular karnataka cuisine and is known for its taste and health aspects. generally, it can be served as it is without any sides as it does contain all required spices but tastes great with coconut chutney.
in north karnataka cuisine, there are many rotti or flat pancakes which forms the major part of the cuisine. the premium ones are ragi rotti and jowar rotti and are made frequently. these are mainly made for afternoon lunch with a bunch of spicy curries like stuffed brinjal or sprouts curry. yet there are other rotti recipes which can be made for breakfast and semolina rotti and rice rotti recipes are one such recipe. compared to other rotti recipes, these are light and ideal for morning breakfast. moreover, when these rottis are made it is added with herbs and spices. hence it can be easily served with simple coconut chutney or any coloured spicy chutney and hence ideal morning breakfast.
furthermore, i would like to highlight some tips, suggestions and variations to rava rotti recipe or sajjige rotti. firstly, i have used coarse or medium-sized semolina (aka bombay rava) for this recipe. do not try this recipe with other variants like thin or thick one, which may not yield a crisp one. secondly, i have added sour yoghurt as part of wet ingredients and hence balancing the taste of spic, salt and sourness. having said that you can add water and add lemon juice as its alternatives. lastly, i have spread on top of tawa and did not use any plastic or banana leaf to shape it. if you are comfortable with those you can use it to shape it and place it on top of tawa.
