Banana Upside Down Cake Recipe

Sticky Caramel Banana Cake with step-by-step photo and video recipe. Upside-down cake is the new trend and a fancy cake made primarily with large apple or pineapple slices. These fruits can easily hold their shape even while it is baked at high temperature. Yet it can be made with other fruits and banana slices are one of the popular choices. And banana upside-down cake recipe is one such recipe with caramel sauce.

As I was explaining earlier, inverted cake recipes are a popular and fancy way of preparing a monotonous sponge cake. However, making it with banana can be tricky, especially since it may lose its shape when baked at high temperatures. Therefore, the caramel sauce comes to the rescue. Sugar caramel sauce not only adds a sticky and glossy texture but also holds the banana slices together while it is baked. Moreover, the mild flavors of banana get infused into the cake, thus making a flavored cake recipe. Contrary to the traditional banana cake, this carries a mild flavor as the banana puree is not mixed with the wet ingredients. This can be certainly a selling point, especially for those who do not like the strong banana aroma in their cake. Do try this and let me if you like this upside-down cake.

Firstly, the banana used for this cake is ripe but not fully riped too soft. It has to be firm yet ripe so that it does not dissolve when mixed with caramel sauce and during baking. Secondly, the quantity of sugar caramel is open-ended and you can increase or decrease it as you wish. However, if you increase the quantity way too much it may collapse the cake. Therefore, keep it at an optimum quantity. Lastly, the flavors of the cake can be varied as per your choice. I have gone with a basic vanilla flavor, but you may opt for chocolate, custard, or any other desired flavor.
