as i was explaining, the dahl soup is a versatile recipe and can be made with all the available types of lentils. in this post, i have used the mixed lentil to prepare the soup base but individual lentil also makes a great choice. particularly, the moong dal soup is my personal favourite and i make it with a hint of dill leaves in it. i make it often whenever i feel like to have something lite meal or have a sore throat problem. having said that, i have made a different choice with this recipe post. i have chosen mixed dal which makes it a perfect and balanced meal. it has all the nutrients from all the lentils used. moreover, it is protein-packed and hence can be served for lunch or dinner.
furthermore, i would also like to add some more additional tips, suggestions and variations to dal soup recipe. firstly, i have tried to make this recipe without oil or butter in it. the idea was to make it healthy. however, you may add butter or ghee while pressure cooking the lentils to make it more flavoured. secondly, add as much as vegetables you like. make sure to make it balanced with the carbs, fibre and protein. lentil supplies protein, whereas potatoes or sweet potatoes supply carbs and all leafy vegetables supply fibre. lastly, once the soup is rested it would improve its consistency to thick. you may need to add water to bring it to the right consistency before it is served.

Ingredients
- 3 tbsp masoor dal
- 3 tbsp moong dal
- 2 tbsp toor dal
- 1 inch ginger
- 2 clove garlic
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 carrot, chopped
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 cup water
- ½ tsp pepper powder
- 1½ cup water, adjust consistency
- 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped
Instructions
- firstly, in a bowl take 3 tbsp masoor dal, 3 tbsp moong dal and 2 tbsp toor dal.
- rinse well and soak for 30 minutes.
- now transfer the soaked dal to a pressure cooker.
- add 1 inch ginger, 2 clove garlic, ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt and 2 cup water.
- cover and pressure cook for 2 whistles on medium flame.
- once the pressure releases, cool completely and transfer to the blender.
- blend to smooth paste.
- take the veggie dal paste to a large kadai.
- add ½ tsp pepper powder and 1½ cup water. adjusting consistency as required.
- mix well and simmer for 5 minutes or until the flavours are well absorbed.
- finally, add 2 tbsp coriander and dal soup is ready to serve.

- firstly, in a pressure cooker, you can add vegetables and dal of your choice.
- also, add a dollop of curd to increase the flavour just before serving
- additionally, adjust the amount of water depending on the consistency of soup.
