One such popular recipe is soya chilli, which is known for its sweet and spicy lip-smacking taste.

This recipe forย soy chilli is very similar to my previous chilli recipes, but I found it to beย much easier to prepare compared to its predecessors. However, the soya nuggets need to be boiled separately before coating and deep-frying them in oil. This helps to eliminate excessive protein and soften the soy. Moreover, due to the texture and shape of soy, it does not turn out soggy even after being kept for a while. Hence, it makes an ideal party starter or an appetiser for potluck parties as it can remain crisp for a longer time. I like the chewiness that the soya nuggets have to offer. In other words, the combination of sweetness, spiciness and chewiness makes an ideal snack for any occasion.

Furthermore, here are some tips, suggestions, and recommendations for the soya chilli recipe. Firstly, I would recommend cleaning and boiling the soya nuggets thoroughly before using them in this recipe. Some brands do mention skipping this step, but I would recommend following it anyway. Secondly, I have deep-fried the coated soya nuggets, which canย also be easily pan-fried,ย shallow-fried, or baked for reducedย oil consumption. You may need to stir the soya nuggets continuously while pan-frying, otherwise they may stick to the bottom. Lastly, I have added 1 tsp of chilli sauce to this recipe, but you can adjust it to suit your taste.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup soya chunks
  • 1 tsp salt
  • hot water
  • ยผ cup corn flour
  • ยฝ tsp chilli powder
  • ยฝ tsp garam masala
  • ยฝ tsp salt
  • oil, for frying

for sauce:

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp ginger garlic, chopped
  • 2 tbsp spring onion, chopped
  • ยฝ onion, finely chopped
  • ยฝ capsicum, cubed
  • 3 chilli, slit
  • 2 tbsp chilli sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • ยฝ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp spring onion, chopped

Instructions
 

  • Firstly, in a bowl, take 1 cup of soya chunks, 1 tsp salt and hot water.
  • Soak for 5 minutes or until the soya softens.
  • Squeeze off the water and transfer to the bowl.
  • Addย ยผ cup corn flour, ยฝ tsp chilli powder, ยฝ tsp garam masala and ยฝ tsp salt.
  • Mix well, ensuring the soya is evenly coated.
  • Deep fry in hot oil, keeping the flame on medium.
  • Fry until the soya turns golden and crispy. Keep aside.
  • In a pan, heat 2 tbsp oil. Add 2 tbsp ginger garlic,ย 2 tbsp spring onion and saute well.
  • Also add ยฝ onion, ยฝ capsicum,ย 3 chilli and saute well.
  • Now addย 2 tbsp chilli sauce, 2 tbsp tomato sauce, 2 tbsp vinegar, 2 tsp soy sauce and ยฝ tsp salt.
  • Mix well, ensuring the sauces are thoroughly cooked.
  • Further add fried soya, 2 tbsp spring onion and mix well.
